For me I think the dark colour looks more natural.

I feel that ADA aquasoil is used mainly for lowering the pH. The soil is, quite frankly, difficult to plant plants in, and there's the fact that it slowly disintegrates over time into a sort of powder.
If I were you, I'd assess whether my fish will benefit from a lower pH. If so, get ADA aquasoil. If not, get the normal base fert and gravel... much easier to plant your plants.
