    Well, to each its own.
yup, this came up before & will again.
cause always will have new hobbyist who ponder & ask.

good for me to see how the general idea changes as new tech is introduced.

maybe i should start another thread called "Lets not use low/mid/tech to describe tanks anymore."
start up a discussion and wait for it to die off. haha

use a point scoring system easier.

light & co2 will generate highest points. since they are most required.

if pass a certain point become high if not pass consider low.

Not to pour oil on the fire , as far as i know in the plant fora i frequent in the Uk/USA a tank is called high tech as soon as any form of carbon is added (diy, excel-like or presurized).
The rest of the maintenance doesn't matter.

Did they ever explain why? Could it be because they have no need for any other tech?

The amount of available C is important in determining the amount of plantgrowth, so it's limiting the amount of light you can give without promoting algae. folowing that the amount of ferts is also depending on that. So: lots of carbon available, more light can be given and more ferts are needed. Tha amount of maintenance is not in this equation.
Being dutch, the old school dutch aquaria were low in carbon, low light, slow growing aquaria, but full of plants anyway.

    yes!

maintenance was never in hi or low... for me...

light x co2 x ferts... always go hand in hand.

what you just said can be reversed and still mean same.

no worries about fire you can add all the oil you want . opinion gathering thread, ts would love it..

    i agree!

But why CO2. in the equation
    CO2 = fn(Fert) = fn(lighting) fn represents an unknown mathematical function.

if fert or lighting increase, it will also result in an increase of CO2. Why is only Co2 the defining element?

    Co2($) + fertilizer($) + lights($) = money ($$$)

If plants can grow well, you keep spending the money.
If plants cannot grow well, you better keep the money.
If you don't want the money, you can give away the money.

If you want to give money to me, the bank account is dodobank savings 123456-7. I accept telegraphic transfer, no cheque, no ATM, and strictly no passing money over the mrt gantry. But I am flexible, if you insist on passing me money over the mrt gantry, the service charge is $2000 sgd dollars. Very cheap only.

So tech level is determined by amount if money spent? Hahaha

maybe can start another standard called low/med/high cost tank. easier to quantify.
