    Hi everyone,
kindly advise as I am intending to set up a shrimp tank soon - have the following questions:
    1. I intend to put in some 8 cardinal tetras and 5 anda corys - will they be alright with my shrimps?
    2. If I put in various types of shrimps - will they cross breed?
    3. Am using ADA soil - Ph is around 6 - is that too low for shrimps? what shd ideal KH be?
    4. Waht are the best type of plants that i should put in? prefer those that are slow growing / low maintenance
    5. anyone has setup a tank as described in 4? any pic to show pls?

    Thanks very much....

pH 6 may be alittle too low for them. do throw in some java moss for some sense of security in them. shld the shrimps be breeding, i guess the youngs will not be able to survive as ur tank is not so-called a shrimp tank with those cardinals swimming ard.

I disagreed with the last sentence of prec, the tetras will not touch the shrimps. At least for my case, but i had a very dense 3ft tank for them to hide.

Gd Lk for your shrimp breeding.

    1. those fish should not harm the shrimps. But they will eat your baby shrimps for sure.
    2. Commonly know shrimp that will cross breed are tiger shrimp. It also depend on what type of shrimps you going to place in this tank? If you hope to really breed? Then best do not mix.
    3. AdA soil for shrimp tank is abit wasted as shrimp do not need ADA soil.
    It more for your plant.
    4. Plant? Depend on your preference.
    5. ----
    6. How big is your tank? Do you use any lighting? Any filter media?

If you want nice n beautiful setup? then you need to invest abit.

    Hope it help.

    Thanks

My 6' tank with full of Cardinal, yamato, rummy nose, emperor, rasbora and cherry shrimp. My cherry babies had spawn to around 20-30 already. Managed to survive with all the different mosses around for breeding, feeding and hiding.

babies will not survive are due to the fact that the tank is not densely covered with mosses. if not it should be well enuff for the tetras to live with the shrimps.

i dont tink malayan w cross with cherry.

Yes Some shrimps will be sucked into an external canister filter and some will survive. You'll find them when you clean the filter.

But that is bad right? Any ways to prevent that from happening?

It's difficult so long you have a filter running. But the number of shrimps get sucked into a filter is small (maybe a large number since they will be floating in the water and only small number and the strongest will survive. Think of it as a natural selection ). Certainly very low intake flowrate will reduce the chance.

So far I have no luck with shrimps. They keep dying on me as I dose so much fertilizer and CO2 into my tank. I admire and like Teo's tank very much because his shrimps breed and everything live in harmony and soooooooooooooooo natural.
