I saw this normal (not made specially for plants) fluorescent light from Phillips and the specs say 6500K temperature and 36 watts.

Can I use this for aquarium plants? Trying to do a DIY light setup.

    Thanks all!

I was wondering because there's so much talk about colour temp, spectrum, etc. I know the temp is ok...at 6500K, but not sure about the other details. Anyway, thanks for your input.

I have been using such tubes since "day 2", the day after I stop using so-called aquarium lights. I don't notice any difference in plant growth.

Nowadays we even go for compact flourescents. They are shorter and pack the same wattage. Good for high-light requirement plants.
