Started this new 18L tank in 20th of January, 2014, with the same LED light that I used with success in the hair grass tank of the same size.
However, this time round it seems inadequate for this new setup comprising of Rotala rotundifolia, Hydrocotyle tripartita and Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo'. The Rotala is growing leggy with increased internodal distance, the M. 'Monte Carlo' was also growing upwards with stringy stems and very tiny leaves.
Finally after 2 weeks, I decided to take the plunge of getting the Maxspect Razor Nano 60W to replace the 9W LED. Finally everything took off!
The inhabitants of the tanks are : 3 Ottocinclus, 2 Indostomus paradoxus, 12 Malayan shrimps, 2 nerite snails and 24 Endler's livebearers.
The elder's can be seen grazing and pecking on the leaves and rocks, beautiful fishes and a great addition to the algae control crew. After their introduction, the main rock, which had been covered by algae, the endler's did such a good job that the algae on the rocks have been significantly reduced. I only feed them once every 3 weeks.
The Rotala rotundifolia sees rapid growth and needs to be pruned once or twice a week. However, they are not turning red despite a good dose of iron and exposed to bright lights.
