I placed an order for a custom tank with the following requirements from aquariumobsessed.com,
    20 R
    24x13x16

    -Starphire glass
-Diamond edge (minimal silicone in the corners)
    -No trim
    -No top brace (four sided)
    -Clear Sealant
-Thickness of the glass similar to the picture

Starphire on all 4 sides, 24x13x16
    $399.00 USD delivered.
I heard about the company on reef central. The only problem that people mentioned is that the tanks took awhile to arrive. The quote I got from oceanic was $1000 for the same tank. So I placed the order knowing that it would take awhile to get the tank.
Order was placed April 28, 2004
Order was received on September 3, 2004
The tank was exactly what I wanted. I've been using acrylic tanks because I am really impressed with the clarity. But scratching an acrylic tank that you spent $100 on can be really painful. Starphire gives you the clarity of acrylic with the durability of glass. Aquarium Obsessed makes an incredible tank, and I think a lot of planted tank people will be satisfied with this Amano replica.

USD400 for a 2ft tank? Too expensive. Do you mean including the lighting, filter and wooden cupboard? No offence please. We can buy a similar tank, maybe not the same quality, for SD20++.

    Re:

The key word is "not the same quality"..... if you can't appreciate the quality of the tank shown, it's not very appropriate to compare it with a local $20 version with fat black trims and the reliability of a Trabant. Of course, if demand for such Staphire tanks grows, I would expect unit prices to fall over time. Some folks are willing to pay top dollar for every ounce of quality and a lifetime of satisfaction; others satisfice with cheaper stuff that needs to be replaced (at greater cost perhaps) every now and then... I don't condemn either approach, and neither should regard the other as unjustifiable.

Wonderful tank. Indeed need massive demand to drive the price down though, custom stuff are never cheap..... No trim 4ft tank possible? Scared it will collapse due to to the huge amount of water in it.... my 4 ft has 120 gal of water.

I figure, if Amano has had them constructed, then why couldn't someone else.

IMO, it would have been perfect if all the sides of the aquarium are in congruous with that of the cabinet. There's then harmony between glass and wood.
I presume you bought the cabinet separately? [/quote]

Not yet. I've drawn it out, I'm just waiting awhile before I spend more money.

Does anyone know where to get starshire tanks in Singapore?

Looks kinda of nice to start 'amano' style tanks for a trend.

it's no use having an amano's tank type without the master's flair and approach

Well that part takes time. I'll get there, its just going to take a lot of practice. But you are not going to reach that quality unless you have the right tools, in my opinion. I think taking pictures through starphire is going to achieve better results than taking pictures through green tinted glass. Maybe not, I don't know. I think the best way to learn is to emulate the master, and eventually go in your own direction.

    Hi,

I like your tank, pardon me for a question (maybe a little silly) what's a starphire glass? I am using a 60 x 30 x 36 cm ADA tank - is this also a starphire? I got this tank because of its clarity and thinness. Also the neat silicon. It looks exactly as your posted sample of the ADA. Can share your knowledge about this 'starphire' thingie I am also using a 20cm ADA cube seamless tank (if you consider a 20cm cube, a tank) is this also 'starphire'? Dunno all this while? Both pictures are available in my www below

    thanks

Starphire glass is low iron glass. You can see the green tint when you look at the glass from the side. In this picture, the bottom glass is regular glass and the glass on the side is starphire,

ADA calles this their Clear Type series. Very nice. I almost thought you were talking about the Cube Garden series. These are made of one solid piece of opitcal glass
    More examples,

    Hi,

Great! now I can appreciate my 2ft ADA tank more. So silly of me, did not realised all this info at all. Has been keeping it for a sometime. The one piece type is real cool, could not affort the bigger one so I got the 20cm ADA Cube from Tokyo when I was there for holiday. I am considering ordering the 90 x 45 x 45 cm starphire one. Only can have it if I can get rid of my 2ft ADA (wife's instruction... ) thanks for taking the trouble to show the picture. Appreciate

    Jellyman
