Here's my psuedo planted tank for my cories and discus

There is no soil in this tank, only pea gravel.

There are 2 pots of wendtii crypts planted in low profile bonsai pots using gex soil and hidden behind rocks and covered with gravel
A tall Java ferns mounted on woods in the background, and some mounted anubia in front.
Have been trying to fix some mini anubia on the driftwoods.

3 pieces of driftwood are positioned together to look like a hollowed tree stump and placed at one-third position.
Many cories and even discus can hide in there.

Water change is 3 times 80% a week. The prefilter sponges for my 3 filters are washed weekly.

Everything in this tank can be easily re-positioned.
The pea gravel is useful for the cories to forage for food, and easy to maintain and vacuum due to the messy discus that are fed on beefheart.
A small group of cardinal tetras also acts as dither fishes, and a small group of SAE and otos clean up the algae.

If you have any suggestion, do share.
    Thanks

Now that is indeed dedication to tank maintainence... just curious whats the dimensions of the tank? It looks like a relatively low-profile but wide tank.

The huge regular water change is a regular practice of discus keepers. I have already cut it down to 3 times weekly, but those growing out juveniles will usually do 100% water change daily, lol.

The tank is 4ft long, but i didn't top up too much water, but the fishes are 5 to 7 inches wide, which makes the tank look short.

    Very smoothing feel.

Just curious, why the 100% water change? Wouldn't it affect the bacteria, parameter and all?

Juvenile discus stunts very easily if they do not get very good water. With 100% water change daily, nobody needs to worry about bacteria too much, and parameters are usually a non-issue unless the tap water is polluted. But for a cycling tank, 100% water change daily will make it slower for tank to cycle, it does not affect mature tanks with established filters.

Nice set up. What brand pea gravel are you using?

Yeah... whenever i visit my friend's home, he has a large discus tank and somehow i always see him in the midst of doing water changes, the siphon hoses are pretty much permanently attached to the side of the tank. It definitely requires true dedication to maintain a healthy discus tank.

Don't think there is a brand. Got them from seaview. They seems smooth enough not to hurt the cories barbel.

Actually, it's not that bad keeping discus. You can cut down 1 water change weekly if you have good size fish and good water.
I will probably do that when the discus are dinner plate sizes.

Anyone familiar with lightings? I am trying to bring out the blues and red colours of fishes in the tank. I googled and some recommended pink bulbs and stuff. Any suggestions?
