Snails good ???

Greetings all !!!!
i was just wondering if it is a good idea to introduce Malayan Trumpet Snails into my planted tank ???

believe they barrow into the gravel and therefore "stirring" up the gravel which i think is good for the plants.

I am not sure how effective they are at aerating the substrate. But they sure help get rid of excess food left on the substrate. One good thing is that, they all hide in the substrate during lights-on hours, so it is less of an eyesore.

MTS, like Ramshorn snails, help to eat up dead and dying leaves. Even dead fish. MTS burrow in the substrate and people therefore say they help loosen the substrate. They hide in the day come out mostly after lights off. They give birth to live snails!

Once you introduce them in, there's almost no way of removing them. So decide carefully.

yep. bro you better consider carefully before introducing MTS.

i had a 2ft infested with MTS after they hitched a ride on some ferns.
they propagate really fast and the only way to get rid of them is to do a complete overhaul.

Actually, does these snails (ramshorn and mts) eat healthy plants? if not, perhaps it's not a big problem rite?

These snails do not eat healthy plants. They only eat the algae that is growing on the leaves or dead/ dying leaves. They also eat algae growing on other parts of the tanks and scavenge for leftover food and dead fish.

I am perfectly happy to have them around. But not everyone likes the sight of snails in the tank.

den can these snails be gotten rid by dwarf puffers?

i guess it boils down to the individual....some like snails ....some don't.

i have zebra snails in my tank now and when i 1st bought them i thought they were very nice.

but now....those snails start laying "eggs" all over and it is very difficult to remove them !!!!
