    Lo I dunno if anyone would agree but this what I realize from my experience after 4months of watching tiger and cherry shrimps... Tiger shrimps would not share their food with other shrimps and if there a sudden change in temperature like 1c it dies. Also I figure out why my dead shrimps are always left with just its meat... The shrimps peel the skin off and eats just the skin leaving the meat wired but that's what happen. Although I still haven't figure out why they not breeding... Oh ya I realize cherry shrimps won't breed under 27c... I dunno if its the fact but from the looks of it not breeding.... The only horrible thing is this hot weather where the water turns to vapour and I have to weekly add water rather then change.

    Unless a nice soul would like share his or hers experience here would be awesome as I might have missed something important in setting up the tank.

    Ammonia and nitrate = 0 . kh and gh = 3. Ph level 6.6 . Hang on slim filter with cermic rings. Tank is soft water with 2 housings an 4 moss balls and 2 java moss. With hang on cooling fan. Currently shrimps 10 tiger shrimps... 15 cherry shrimps... Both not breeding reasons I dunno why ={

    Re: The shrimp topic

    Your GH seems abit low... most likely the shrimps are short of essential minerals to molt properly and build new shells (could be one of the reasons why they quickly eat the shells of fellow dead shrimps).

    It's not just temperature, if the overall conditions in the tank are not favorable to the shrimps, they have to direct resources to surviving rather than breeding. Shortage of nutrients makes them weaker so they become more susceptible to even small changes in water conditions.

    Maybe you can try adding some shrimp mineral/vitamin supplements or perhaps a mineral rock into the tank, see if it helps.

    In my case, i've been using BorneoWild Minerocks in all my tanks for almost a year and so far they seem to be working well (i just drop the rock behind some plants and forget about it)... i keep cherry shrimps of various grades too and they are all healthy, no molting problems and their shells nice and shiny. Lots of shrimplets in those tanks too so breeding isn't an issue, even though tank temperatures sometimes hit up to 29°C-30°C during hot afternoons nowadays.

    The initial cost of those rocks is abit high though, a 500 gram pack with 4-5 rocks costs around $30+, but based on following the pack recommendation to use one rock per 2ft tank (so one pack could be used for a few tanks), and after a year i've found the rock is still around 80% of the original size and still slowly releasing beneficial minerals, i think the overall cost is okay (much easier than having to manually dose minerals every week).

    I guess if you have a single smaller tank, maybe can share a pack with others to split the cost (or buy individual smaller rocks from existing users who have spares).

    I just give it a quick rinse under the tap and then put it in the tank.

    Some of the mineral powder will flake off... actually its mostly minerals, so when you put it in the tank it'll start to slowly dissolve anyways.
