As I have two fish tanks, water changes are a bit of a chore. My nearest tap and drainage is about 5 metres away.

I am thinking of one of using one of the cheap water pumps sold at LFS for the purpose of

    (1) I fill a bucket of water from the tap, put Prime inside.
    (2) instead of carrying the bucket and slowly scooping the water into the tank, I will run a tubing (say 9/12mm tube) from the bucket to the fish tank with the water pump in the middle. Similarly to remove water, i reverse the direction.

    Does this work?
    (1) Worried that the cheap pump is not design to push water through 5m of tubing.
    (2) Does the pump actually have connectors that allow me to connect tubing? From the box itself, most of the pumps, i can't see any place that allows me to connect, say 9/12mm tubing to the inlet and outlet....

    Any help greatly appreciated!

i did that in the past, but feeling still slightly troublesome, need to switch off the pump from a-end to b-end, and end up with water splash scattered across the floor.

Now i just hooked my pipe into the tap and drop the prime / safety to the tank directly. You dose the prime/safety equivalent to your tank volume. It's been a year since i'm doing so.
