Went out to get couple of bulbs, a pink and actinic blue.

    Which one looks better?

Combo 1: 1 Actinic blue and 1 white light

Combo 2: 1 pink and 1 white light

Combo 3: Actinic blue, 1 pink and 2 white lights

    Combo 4: 4 white lights

I will prefer 1 for the overall bluish feeling.

But 2 will give the fish a better reddish colour.

I like 1. Is there any effect to the plants or fishes with the introduction of blue with the white?

Number 2 looks really good! Next best would be 4 but doesnt bring out the colour of your fishes.

was any White balance correction done to the photos? does the photos look like the tank in real life? sometimes the camera does white balance correction which will remove certain hues from the photos.

If no white balance correction was done, i actually prefer 3 or 4. Spoil market. haha

Re: Pink, Blue or White light?

The actinic blue and pink lights make the tank dimmer, so it's more comfortable for the fishes.
However, actinic blue doesn't really have the useful spectrum needed by plants, so i have to pair it with white light. Pink is ok for plants.

The initial plan to use different light is because, when i switch on 4 T5 white tubes, the discus look washed out, and the colour doesn't really show on the turquoise or the leopards discus.

The actinic blue light makes the turquoise look really blue, and the pink light brings out the red in the pigeons and the turquoise, but dims the blue. Notice the same turquoise discus looks totally different in the 1st and 2nd pictures, taken mins before each other.

White balance is not corrected for all the 4 pictures, all out of camera.

Re: Pink, Blue or White light?

The wavelength of light does play an important role on plant growth. So the actinic blue does not benefit the plant much? As compared to the white tubes? Sorry still new to planted tank lighting. I would love to learn from you guys (and girls too? haha)

Me too, haha. I also like the combo 3 or 4. Just worry for the combo 4 a bit since the plants in your tank are nana and fern, which might have algae problem if you use strong light of 4 white tubes.
