I don't think there are too many betta breeding specalist hanging around here.

For selective breeding to achieve specific body features, you are better off at the specifc betta forums.

Good luck and show us some pictures!

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

opps.. i think i didn't make myself clear. i meant how to make my existing plakat's tail thicker? and i wish i could, but they don't welcome me there. is either i don't have an accepted e-mail add or the admin is just to busy to accept me.

My elementary understanding of octogeny seems to say that traits such as fin length and thickness (as well as nuchal humps and the propensity to prefer others of the same gender) are genetically expressed. Meaning you can pump up the fish with protein, nutrients etc... but the fins will not get thicker or longer than what they were programmed to be.....

The only way to get your desired fish is to buy one, or selectively breed one.

oh. But i think you're a teeny weeny bit off there. take human height for example. it could be infulenced by environmental factors. from what i read at arofanatics, they can thicken crowtails with large tank and clean water. if the tank is small and dirty, the tail will curl and become very thin. so i was wondering if i could be anything to help my fish.
