    Hi guys
I have been trying to plant HC as carpet in my tank but have not been successful. Keep melting and not growing well. I have tried the following set ups

    1) T5 39w x2 for 10hours a day
    2) T5 39w x2 for 6hours a day
    3) Led 10w x4 for 5hours a day
    4) Led 10w x4 + T5 39w x2 for 5hours a day

All set ups are with the same
    Filtration OHF
    Co2 @4-5blips per sec
    3ftx1.5x1.5 tank
    Ada soil
    2x Otto
    About 29-30 degrees water temperature
    No algae at all

The only thing I haven tried is chiller.
But to use chiller I have to change filtration to canister which I really do not have any space to put unless I remove a 2ft tank I have beside.

Do I really need chiller or my lighting set up is still wrong?

Your HC plants keep melting may be due to it adjusting to your tank parameter. Does ur HC creeps, propagating with newly established roots?

What do your mean by creep? You mean spreading? I can see trying to spread but the main bush leaves are turning dark transparent green

    Re: HC help

Water circulation could be the issue. Is water being circulated well to the HC (or all other plants for that matter)?

Filtration OHF? Is that the one on top of tank? If so, you probably lose lots of co2

I understand what you mean but I manage to prevent water splashing back down. There are totally no air bubbles of any size when the water flow back into the tank. Feels exactly like a canister

Nope. I put sponge wrapping the rainbar. With media right at the bottom where the water is. Can't even hear water running sound.

    Re: HC help

What type of Co2 diffusion are you using? If you are using ceramic disc diffusers, is it positioned in the path of the filter flow and do you see the tiny Co2 bubbles being pushed down by the flow and settling around the HC? If not, then most likely a high portion of the Co2 is just rising up to the water surface and then disappearing.

With the rainbar having sponge wrapped around, is the flow and circulation still sufficient? As in, the areas in the tank with HC are getting water circulating around them? You can see if there is enough circulation by watching the leaves of the HC, if they sway slightly and Co2 bubbles swirl down and get trapped amongst the leaves, then that indicates sufficient flow, if the leaves just stay still, then quite likely no much (or low) circulation in those areas.

Circulation very important to get sufficient Co2 to the HC to help it get established during the initial transition period... that's one of the reasons why most aquascapers go for high filter flow rates and outflow pipes targeted to constantly circulate water over their carpet plants. HC is one of those plants that really need all the extra help it can get just to grow.

I gave up on HC and went for Glosso. Loving it :-)

    Re: HC help

I am using the glass type diffuser. The water coming down from ohf is strong enough to make a mess of the soil below if I did not connect a L pipe to make the water flow horizontally. The diffuser is also place right at the out-flow part of the ohf. So the co2 is being blown to the rest of the tank.

As for circulation. I can see mild leaves movement. Not the constantly swaying kind. But I can't see any bubbles trapped amongst the leaves though.

I have glosso too, but not in this tank. They are quite easy since they can grow under my newbie hands. Haha.
