HI guys, im having problems with my high ph currently. I'm using borneowild plant soil as shrimp soil wasnt available. The uncle at GC said it's the same just need cycle a bit longer. I just tested the PH and it read at 7.6, I'm intending to breed CRS and this is way too high. The plant soil stated that it buffers the the ph to about 5.8-6.5. I have 4 rocks that I bought from GC also, they're river rocks and a drift wood with moss nothing else. Can someone explain to me why the ph is so high and how I can reduce it

Take the river rocks out for a day and test the PH again

    Re: PH problem

How much soil are you using in the tank vs the volume of water? Sometimes if the tap water pH happens to be high and the amount of soil used is low relative to the water volume, the soil's pH buffering ability may not be able to work as quickly or as effectively.

    1. Measure the pH of your tap water
    2. Take a cup of the soil put it in the small container, add tap water, wait couples hour and measure the pH.
    3. Take out the one of the rock, put in small container, add tap water, wait couples hour and measure the pH.

By the above tests you should be able to figure out which one that contribute to the pH
