1. algae eaters such as otos and sae are ok.
2. puffer fish are big no no for guppies, they will nip the fins of other fishes
3. cories will mop up any food in the bottom and are good communitiy fishes.
Hi,
im keeping a guppy tank in a planted tank. I need the following crew to add into the family not sure if they can live in harmony.
1) algae cleaner
2) snail eater - puffer fish? Cos I realise that small snails start to be seen in the tank and I really dun like.
3) bottom dwellers cos of the greedy guppy always gobble and release the food (balance) causing it to drop to the bottom and refuse to swim down to take and keep waiting for new food.
I needed them them not to disturb the fry as I forsee newborn in a few days time.
Thks

Algae eaters, you can consider Otocinclus, Amano/Yamato Shrimp, Cherry Shrimps.
Snail eater, if you do not have shrimps, consider a clown loach, if not use an Assassin Snail. From what I have heard, after all the snails are gone, puffer fish will then start to nip at other fishes or your shrimps , causing stress.
Bottom dwellers, same as the algae cleaners. And also dwarf cories, they shoal quite nicely too.

Allow me to clarify What I meant by better as in beside efficient and also nice to the fry.
4) if I'm keeping the above, shld I keep in pair or more or 1 will do?

Hi,
you can choose to stock otos, yamato shrimp, assassin snails and probably nerite snails (if you have green spot algae).
yamatos double up as algae crew and mop up crew.
As for the number of each, you will need to look at the amount of food available for them. for a 2 ft tank, i normally start adding from 1 of each.
I am balding but i am still young!
Otos do best in a group of at least 3, preferably 6 or more. Saes may eat your fries.
Clown loaches are sensitive to water condition and they grow potentially too big for your tank; cories are hardier and the dwarf variants stay small. At least 3-6 for the cories. Best to have a little open space for the cories to wander around.
Ok if I take 2 Yamato 2 oto and 2 dwarf cories will it be good? Or I shld take only 1 each?
Assassin snail will eat up the snails? If yes any idea where I can get? If I say assassin snail will they know or there is a more common or known name?

dwarf cories do better in a group of 5-6 as they live in groups in nature.Assassin snail will eat the snails up and is quite common.2 yamato and 2 oto should be fine
Dwarf cories will not mop up much food that is left on the floor of your tank. Sterbais, bronze or pepper cories will do a better job, as they are really at the bottom of the tank all the time.
Different algae crew have their own preferred algae food, which is why an assortment is better sometimes. Not many algae crew attacks the bba algae like the sae, which is why i recommended it, on top of the otos.
For snail eaters, consider the assassin snail. Loaches can do the job but sometimes, they attack the eyes of other fishes.
