I believe that Elodea is a low light plant.

It can handle low light, doesn't mean it likes it, it's just ebter than most plants, Hydrilla is even better.
Both of these live in full tropical noon day sun and grow well floating on the surface also.
Very tough to get rid of.
Both these and Camboba are very bad pest here in the CA, USA.
