Depending on flexibility in the future, you can get anything from 1/10 to 1/4 HP (1/4 is a bit of any overkill but then it can be used for future upgrades like a 3ft and even a 4ft).

    That is my personal opinion.

    I am current running a 1/5 (25-26C) and 1/4 (23-24C) on both my 2 ft and I have a 1/20 (26-27C) for my 1ft.

All of them work reasonably well.

Next to consider is the size of the chiller you can take and also the noise level and quality (of couse brands like TECO and Artica will cost 2 to 3x higher than brands like Hailea and Resun).

Finally depending on what you get, you may wish to see what is the canister you current have and whether you are willing to invest in an external thermo (if you are concerned about the reliability of the internal thermo of the cheaper brand)

I am using a Teco with a Ehiem 2028 filter on a 2ft tank, which is overkill but do not have to worry about getting new equipment when I eventually upgrade to a larger tank. The TECO TR10 also has adjustable taps so you can reduce the water flow; also the air is taken from the bottom of the chiller and push out through the back.

AN Artica chiller takes the air from the front and pushes it to the back, thus would prevent such a TR10 / Ehiem configuration as shown below with the

Which would you consider better interms of noise level ? Teco or Artica? Noise level is impt as I leave the chiller in the main hall where I entertain guest. Thanks

I have no experience with Artica. But the TECO TR20 that I have is silent enough for me in the hall.

The HC300A Haelia I have is a bit "noisier" during start and stop and the constant humming is quite acceptable when on.

For CL450, I find it too noisy for the hall especially during the night when things are quiet. I could have a lemon though...

The above is only my experience with the chillers that I have used.

I have both {Artica & Teco} both are good chillers, however the Artica is better maybe slightly quieter and probably more efficient. The Artica is on my 4ft tank and paid a premium because do not want la chiller that could fail while I was away traveling.

In addition to noise, you will need to consider the heat as you would be surprised how much heat a chiller push out.

No need to buy branded stuff, Hailea chiller is ok too! Remember to get a size bigger than what you need and modify your chiller to use an external temperature probe. Also, if you're serious about this hobby, save up some cash to buy quality equipment. Never ever rush into this hobby, slow and steady is the way.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
