Your shrimps may not last very long doing that

Agreed cos firstly, I tried before. The ice melts very fast cos our water is warm, so the temp will fluctuate alot. You can't be changing bottles when you are sleeping. Didn't go very well for me.
If u want to save electricity, u can try off the fan at night, see if the temp stays at 28+. If it stays then ofg it and on during the day before u leave for work or school.
The temp shouldn't go more than 29 at night unless your tank in placed in a very humid area.

I keep crs in a fan cool tank. They're doing very well and they are the high grade CRS (PRL SS-SSS). The temp is around 27/26 in the afternoon and 23 at night. Aircon on at night.

Sigh, one of my SS crs just died this afternoon. Am suspecting is due to the hot temperature now. Temperature is 28 (afternoon) and 25-26 in the night with fan on.

    Re: Tank temperature for shrimp

My low grades crs are still okay at 28.4 (when i saw it i got heart attack and praying they dont die pls) with fan, when the weather was really very very hot. But I don't think it's ideal for them.
I don't think they die mainly due to temp, but rather the temp flactuations that they can't take it.
In april, it will be warmer....

Ideal temperature for crs is 25-26 degree as many shrimp pros already advised. Watch out for high temperature these days. I got a shock when my thermometer showed 31 degree over the weekend! Guess even the fan(s) won't save the crs in such situation. Anyway just my 2 cents.

Yes, I agree with you. Once I'm ready, I will get a chiller. But for now, those without chillers will do our best to keep the shrimps alive, unless we want to give it away to others with chillers and give up until we get chiller.
Never quite expect the weather to turn out so extreme.
Surprisingly, my crs made it through the dry season since Feb, i hope they can go through the warm april.

I have a hof and an air bubble filter in my tank.
sorry to jump in but air bubble has cooling effect as well?

If you are referring to using an air stone, the bubbles will agitate the water surface to help with oxygenation (oxygen content is lower in warm water, so that's is good)... but just using an air stone to create bubbles wouldn't cool the water. You'll need a fan or chiller to reduce the temperature.

    Re: Tank temperature for shrimp

Brace yourselves CRS owners, summer is coming.

Okay jokes aside, from my experience the adults or "old birds" in your tank will adapt to + - 1 to 3 degree of what is stated in the "encyclopedia of crs" which is maybe 22degree to 28 degree. Animals do adapt to the surrounding, they are not as weak as many assume they are, but at the cost of their colour, activeness, which is mainly due to the common word "stress", which i would likely say discomfort instead of stress, just imagine being in a desert with just a fan on your cap. You can survive but you are in total discomfort due to the heat.

The main problem is your shrimplets, they are newly hatched and very vulnerable, thus they can hardly adapt to the heat as fast as their parents or relatives, that is your main priority, to breed them so you don't have to keep spending money to maintain their population, an adult can survive in a desert much more than a baby could, just an example.

So it comes down to, do you love your pets? If you do try not to make them suffer, go with the breed that can easily adapt to whatever you could provide them with, chiller/fan/airconditio

Hope i make sense, as i seldom explain myself properly

Simple Drip system to counter evaporating during week ends when not in office. temp kept constant 26-27 with fan, aircon and heater. Set to 1 drip per 8 sec.

Y618 have c grade crs. Looks quite nice. Owner said breeder does not use chiller, so can definitely can survive. May try this if my fire red survive another week

    Re: Tank temperature for shrimp

I have grade c, b and a crs. Surviving still and berried. Running fan at 25.5 to 27.5
Shrimplets not born yet so not sure how many will make it.
So I think no harm trying but you need to have really good water quality.
Need more efforts than normal shrimps.

Looks like a office safety violation to me, you'll have the office safety police after you.
