2 feet Tank Scape

Hi,

A newbie in planted tank. Sharing a picture of my tank.

I am still waiting for Plant to grow fuller/taller to cover up the empty space.
Been blasting C02 and lighting for 14 hours a day to increase plant growth (algae growing too haha). Once Tank matured will reduce the light and CO2 period and maintain the scape.
Planning to add some Bright sand to mimic a river feeling in the middle of the tank when the tank get more mature.

Got a query. Saw a few scapes that mix black soil with sand to create a distinct boundary. However, if they wanted to rescape the tank, the soil and sand will all be mixed together and will not be able to create a clear black and white boundary for the next scape. Anyone got any advise to prevent too much mixing of the sand and soil so that more soil and sand can be reused? Thanks.

Scape looks a bit cluttered, maybe too much lava rock in the foreground.

Tank : 24x10x10"
Filtration : Eheim 2213 (using Fan to lower temperature)
Substrate : ADA Amazonia II
Lighting : 4 x T5 tube
CO2 : Pressurized at 1bps for 14 hours a day.
Fauna : Cardinal Tetra, Fire Red, CRS, ottocinclus.
Flora : Staurogyen Repens, Flame Moss, Fissiden on Lava Rock, Mini Pelia on Tree branches, Mini Nana and unknown hairgrass.

You can use plastic cards, or cut outs from transparency to separate the sand and the soil.

Use them as separators to partition the soil and the sand. Cut them to size so that fishes when they swim they do not bump into them..

Got this 2nd Hand wood from Pasir Ris Farm. Only 1 Piece.
Hope that using Mini Pelia as the Canopy for this wood is the right choice. (Still waiting for it to be more mature)
If not, it will be wasting this nice piece of wood.

Yup Yup.
Actually my first attempt was using UG plant as the foreground. I like the light green color and the softness of the UG plant.
- First attempt some UG plant did survive but it doesn't take roots and keep floating up.
- Redo the foreground and replant the UG deeper again, cause quite a bit of stir up in the tank. Subsequently ALL the UG melted the following week. Sianzzz.
- Therefore this current foreground is just using my existing Fissiden on lava rock to fill in the as foreground.

Still thinking of redoing the foreground again using UG plant. Any expert here can advise the trick of growing UG? especially with fish and shrimps already in the tank?
If not maybe will think of HC or Monte Carlo plant. Thanks.

UG will experience a period of melting due to adjusting to your tank/soil. Try to insert the UG deep enough the soil but still exposing 30% out of soil. If condition is right, it will kept growing upwards and developing roots system. Once the roots are established, cut the portion out and replant.

Keeping UG plant is tough for me. Just got it right and see it spreading after close to a year. Wish you luck.

how do you secure the pelia to the braches? net?

I had the same type of tree. but using pelia is a challenge as its quite brittle.

Just sharing an update of the 2ft tank after about 1 month.
The plants looks more matured, Hope it looks better than last time.

Redo the fore ground and change to Monte Carlo. Still waiting for it to carpet more.
Added bright sand to create a path but I think the path looks too straight liao.. Haha
