I recently bought a piece of driftwood from C328 for my blackwater setup. It's one of those larger pieces they have outside the shop that's very light brown, almost yellow and resembles the root structure of some trees. I soaked it for almost a week before putting it into my tank but after a few days, I noticed this weird jelly like white substance on the driftwood.I also found that the wood itself felt very slimy. So I took the wood out and washed off most of the slimy stuff before putting it back into my tank. I also siphoned out as much of the substance that was dislodged and floating around.

However, one week later the slimy jelly like substance is back on the wood although in smaller amounts than before. At the moment, the tank is still cycling and has no livestock or plants yet. Does anyone know what this jelly like thing is and what I can do to get rid of it? Thank you!

Fungus. Nothing to worry about, they will recede once the bacteria dies off. My entire driftwood was covered with it like some spider cobwebs, after awhile with siphon the fungus stopped and upon introduction of my main fauna (shrimps) they have cleared up the remaining fungus within a few days.
