    Hi guys,

I'm considering getting a new filter because I was having too much problems with my Eheim 2213. Flow rate keeps decreasing and I have to do cleaning almost every month to un-gunk it.

Which would you prefer to go with? the Eheim 2215 or the Fluval 206?

Simply getting a 2215 will not solve the problem. If 2213 getting clogged every month, if you get 2215, it may end up getting clogged every month as well (even though 2215 has more filter area, higher filter speed means it will suck in large particles faster than 2213 and end up clogging just as fast).

In addition to 2215, you might need:

    (1) get a fine mesh cover for filter intake (also prevent shrimps entering)
    (2) get a Eheim prefilter filled with Eheim mech or cheaper equivalent

Just being curious, what's your setup like to have you clean every month?

usually for setups with so much debris - better to go for Overhead Filters, easier to change filter wool. The other option is to put a sponge prefilter at the inlet and change the sponge regularly.

    Hey guys,

Just uploading a picture for you to take a look.
I've labelled where I've placed my inflow and outflow pipes. Also labelled that extra HOF that I put recently because the flow was getting too little and I was too busy to clear the gunk.

In addition, I'm not using the skimmer because it seems like my fish will jump into it and it sucks up too much debris.

I'm guessing its a 2ft tank? If so, then the 2213 would be considered "under-flow" for the tank size and volume (especially for a planted tank)... that's why you find that it clogs up so quickly and the flow rate becomes too slow within just a month.

Most planted tank owners over-filter their tanks with larger filters that run >10x flow rate (sometimes even 15-20x), one of the reasons is to compensate for the high amount of debris and leaves accumulated from the plants, so that even if the flow decrease over time, it can still maintain adequate flow for a longer time between cleaning.

Its easy to adjust a higher flow rate filter to slower flow if required, then adjust back higher if needed... but with a lower flow filter, you already max out the flow rate so don't have the option to adjust higher.

Getting a 2215 (or even higher flow rate model) will definitely be more suitable for your tank.

Thanks! Would you recommend a Fluval or an Eheim though?

I haven't used the Fluval canister filters before, but i did check them out a while back when shopping for filters... the 206 model looks pretty good and has lots of features (i like its easy-change filter cartridge system).

You could also look at the Sicce Whale 200 too, similar flow rate and seems to be worth a try too.

I guess they all do more or less the same jobs, just depends on which features you like.

I'm not sure which local distributor supplies the Sicce brand filters... but you can buy the Sicce Whale 200 (and other models in the range) from LFS like Seaview. I've also seen C328 sell it too, but not all the time in stock so i guess they probably can specially order it in for you.

Just to share my thoughts as I am also shopping for a canister filter. Recently saw the Sicce whale 200 at Sun pets. The owner said that Sicce has a 5years doorstep warranty. I was very impress with that but after comparing the flowrate, power consumption and filter media volume, I am leaning more towards the 206.
