How to use a timer?

I have a timer at home, but not so sure each pin represents how many minutes. Can someone tell me the rough guide?

Check your timer. Does it have intervals from 0 to 24, with 4 pins in between each interval? If so, each pin represents 15 minutes.

A pic of it will help lots, since everyone's timer isn't the same
