    hi

have been doing quite some research on nano tank setup as i intend to setup a LR and fish only aquarium for the five plan two feet tank.

    i have some quries:

    (1) protein skimmer
do i need one? a uncle froma marine LFS told me that i can connect a TOM surface skimmer to my ehiem liberty 200 filter and it works the same??

    (2) LR
how many LR do i need? uncle told me about 5 pieces (size?) @ $6 per kg. do i need to treat it? or do i just place it inside to kick start the cycling process.

    (3) fishes
i intend to keep only clown fish. how many is ok? which species is more sturdy? any special care for them?

    (4) filter
i intend to use the ehiem liberty 200 filter. is it good enough?

    (5) lighting
i have a 2X1.5 feet FL light, one 6500, one blue. good enogh for the LR?

hope any guru can shed some light to my questions. thanks

1)yup, you definitely need a skimmer. The skimmer that the uncle recommend is not exactly the skimmer that marine tank need.

2)Depending on your scaping and what corals you may want to keep.

3)Small tank need lesser number of fishes. For your tank size, max should be 4 or less. Add slowly so that the tank could cope with the bio-load.

4)I wouldn't recommend it. Get a good skimmer. A skimmer will be the main filtration component in your tank.

5)You could still use them as you are setting up the tank as a FOWLR tank-Fish Only With Live Rock.

Not a guru as I am still researching too. My setup will consist of a 2ft tank with cabinet and sump. The sump will house my skimmer and other stuff. Buying mostly 2nd hand stuff that other reefer doesn't need as they upgrade to bigger tank setup.

You can go to www.sgreefclub.com and read the many review about skimmer. There are also lfs listing on where to get the items. It also has a section on Nano tank. Hope this helps.
