    Thank You Rwalker,

Yes i do have a very hard algae problem during the first 3 months. But to counter that problem all i did was to cut back fertilization and do more water change like once every 2 days.

Tank temp is about 25 Degree and room temp about 23 Degree that time ...

Sorry for quoting an old post, but may i know can we grow the moss till its so thick and bushy, yet its so uniform and "layered"?

is it planted on to the gravel or tied to some wood/rock and just let it grow out? Can mosses be "planted" into gravel anyway?

thanks ... this was one of my fav tank long time ago ... it has since been torn down

the moss took 1year++ to grow to this stage ... it was initially tied to a 3 legged wood and it kept growing non-stop and soon it formed a thick layer ... soon the moss was detached from the wood as the bottom layer had lost its grasp on the wood but the shape still stayed ... u can see how it all started below (sorry for the reflection as it was taken in office with lights full blast)

best thing about this tank is that i changed water like barely 10times or so in its entire 2yr lifespan

... always look at the bright side of life

Here's another low tech tank, hope you like it, it's a 40 liters tanks, no CO2, small internal filter, heater and few things more. It gets 1 direct solar sun 1 hour a day.

Hi Will5, you are the first El Natural practitioner I encountered in this forum! Welcome! I first tried out this method last Sep and I am happy with the results.

Here is my second soil based, non-co2 tank.

You can't find any fishes in the photo as the Harliquin are ever so active . The other main resident is cherry shrimp.

wow rwalker that is a very nice El natural. I am going to keep my post up to date if you would like to keep an eye on it.

I have to do my first water change on it now because it has nitrates showing up now around 10 ppm. It has been set up now for a little over a week.
