Too little plants. You really need to pack it with plants. If there's room for plants, it's underplanted.

Also, once a week water change for a low tech doesn't work too well. All you really need to do is get the fish you want and let your fish food/waste provide the nutrients. Go light on the Macro and Micro (a few drops is all you need).

Ben...thanks for the tips. I was thinking of Trigonostigma espei...

How about a Blyxa at the back left?
I've changed to Jap HG instead of HC as HC seems like melting..
Now i'm wondering if i shld change to Glosso in the foreground...thats why i'm leaving some empty spaces in front...

Here's the update: After about 3 weeks...

When I saw this piece of old black wood, I just had to bring it home.

Longest dimension is about 4 feet. Luckily it fitted into my 3-footer diagonally.

It's touching all 4 sides of my tank.

    Thumbs up Just amazing!

Hi everyone here. This is my first post on this forum, but I would just like to say these tanks are absolutely amazing. It just shows what can be done with a little patience and without spending millions upon millions on high tech kit.

I'm completely jealous as to the flora and fauna you guys in the far east have on your doorstep. The UK is great in comparison to some countries, but you guys have it all!!

think you should have started another thread and ask this question..

don't think you can scape with fishes inside unless you are not using any gravels .. maybe can get pieces and pieces of wood with plants and do the scape? If you want to add in gravels, then think you will need to take out all the fishes and keep in another tank.

Hi, this is the nano in my uni hall room, running on 9w lighting and hang on filter. Plants are java moss on drift wood and some crypt. inhabitants are 3 white mountains, a whole family of cherry shrimp including fry, plenty of uninvited seed shrimp and worms. Has been running for about 3 months now. Please enjoy and comments welcome!

haha.. actually im quite bad. my room fan is always on so the water level drops significantly every few days. often i would actually pour in some left over water from my drinking mug into the tank to top up the water and then squeeze a few drops of dechlorinator in.

Other than that, i try to change about 30% water once every week or 2 weeks. and also clean the hang on filter, which gets dirty very easily. i just recently trimmed my moss and crypts abit.. but other than that i leave them alone ot grow, thats why the moss is quite lush and taking up quite alot of space.
