i've heard that its quite simple even without co2.
for the hair grass in my tank, i only add excel every day when i remember, and my japanese hair grass are growing well. but im not sure if i stop dosing the excel what would happen.
if there is fish, the shrimps would be stressed. should be safe if u offer lots of plants and places for the shrimps to hide.
my lowtech is a guppy tank :/ and i have alot of cherries inside, im not sure if they are breeding because its hard to even just see the cherries.

    Low tech tank FTW!

What is the plant in the upper right hand corner, that has the roots (?) hanging down into the tank? never seen that before but looks really awesome.

Looks like Frogbits. Very healthy ones thus the long roots.

Re: Low-tech (non-CO2) tanks post your pics!

Hello, I am new to this site and figured I would share my tank pics. While I have been in the hobby for about 15 years, this tank is fairly new, set it up in December. The Rotala macranda and the chain swords have been spreading like wild fire.

I run an emperor 280 and that is all. The lighting is a Marineland LED light that has not been released to the public yet, (still in testing, my husband works for the company and so we got one to test out.) This is my first try at a planted tank. I have mostly just stuck with Saltwater and cichlids up to this point. I am hoping to get into shrimp breeding, just because I am fascinated with invertebrates. Any input would be welcomed.

Did you change the water after adding the plants?
Adding plants stirs up the substrate etc. which can lead to deaths.

Re: Low-tech (non-CO2) tanks post your pics!

both are low tech ! no co2 injection
hehe, the cloudy water should be due to the sand or a bacteria boom. most likely the sand. it was used so i thought it's "washed" haha. well will keep up with water change.

most likely is green BBA. but it looks really nice so im not bothered by it. and its only covering the wood. its not really affecting the plants or glass. its fairly easy to remove as well haha.

    Low tech tank FTW!

Do you dose excel? If you don't dose it should stay green longer. A green bba blanket is very hard to keep.
