Re: Low-tech (non-CO2) tanks post your pics!

actually i bought alot of them without knowing what are they, i only know they are able to thrive in low tech tanks.
btw the tank is mostly 28-30 degrees

i know there are fanworts, hornworts, hydrilla, jap hairgrass, java moss, mini nana. thats all i know haha.

any idea what can be improved on the 3ft?

    Low tech tank FTW!

Im using a energy saving PL 3 watts DIY. Just a simple light for viewing the fishes. the wood wise i got it for the fallen branches of a nearby tree. will post a video on how to cure the wood before using it in the tank.

    Hi anarchy78

The bog wood was in the tank for a short brief moment only I took it out as it looked out of place.

Anyways, the scape have since changed. The blackwater was too "dark" and mom was complaning (unable to see all the fishes )

Here's the current scape. The branches are from the fallen trees nearby i collected.

Simple white sand to complement the tank and a 11 watt Philips Ginie "E.I" DIY lightset to light up the tank. Ehiem 2041 as the filtration.

Any ideas of any steam plants that do not require planting?

SeVenZ, I am interested in how you maintan as well as the specs of your 2ft. It looks so good that I would not believe it is low tech. I would like to replicate your success. Thank yoI!

it is low tech, its now a neglected tank.
Substrate is ada amazonia new + some root monsters
Plants are all the cheap $1 type. most of those don't need to be inserted into the soil. i just left it float above the substrate, the roots will grow in time.
forground is jap hairgrass(this is the only thing that grows really slow)

Currently the 2ft is running on 2 small hang on filters(250/hr), no mechanical filter, just biological(CR)
no lights as its now in the balcony(growing much better, although its bending towards the sun)
    1ml Flourish weekly
    1ml Excel Daily.

    Thats all.

    Low tech tank FTW!

Thanks! I see how important the substrate and ferts are on the initial setup in low tech tanks. Thanks again!

substrate is the most important thing if your looking at a planted tank, be it high or low tech. unless you are talking about moss, ferns, nana etc only.
