Did you wash the ceramic rings? If so, using what kind of water to wash off?
Hi guys, I've been facing this huge challenge of my tank water turning brown and cloudy, for almost 1 month. I tried doing water change even at 50% but still no result.
These happen after I change a set of my filter media, they are ceramic ring basically and a brand of the anti chlorine and it have seen a gone down the drain.
Just to add the PH is stable at 7. My shrimps are all alright and they are even breeding.
Please help!! Attachment 40613Attachment 40614

Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?
You must never use tap water to wash the ceramic rings because the nasty stuffs in the tap water will kill the beneficial bacterial which works for you in the nitrogen cycle.
Scoop some tank water into a container. Pour the CR into it and tumble them if there is a need to clean them. The cause of the cloudy water is bloom of bacterial. Leave it as it is and it'll clear up.

Looks like bacterial bloom.... i guess when you changed the bio-media, the previous beneficial bacteria population decreased too much and the tank cycle probably re-started again.
Bacterial bloom usually lasts for at most a few days (often less than a day) though, if yours has been cloudy for a month, then maybe there is alot of excess organic waste in the tank so the new bacteria has lots to consume and therefore keep multiplying non-stop.
Just a single 50% water change may not be enough, consider doing more frequent water changes to gradually reduce the excess "food" for the bacteria.

If your tank was already fully cycled and stable, then just replacing a portion of the media shouldn't destabilize the cycle so much. At most just a short mini-cycle and then the system is back on track.
If your tank is still new and in the midst of cycling, then the bacterial bloom is just part of the on-going cycling process anyways, may not have been much to do with the media change.
That would help, try reducing feeding in stages and see if it works... sometimes bacterial blooms do stay persistent when there is too much feeding, so it's an indication to fine-tune the feed portions and schedule.
The browning maybe the wood releasing tanins. Did you get the wood from LFS? Was it in a tank before you buy it? Cloudy water would most likely be due yo bacterial bloom. Cheapest wat to resolve is to just wait and do your water changes periodically. This method is the longest.
I am balding but i am still young!
With the added info... look like its a combination of tannins (brownish tint) and bacteria bloom (cloudiness).
Carbon will help adsorb the tannins (but do remember to remove it out after 2 weeks once it exhausts). Purigen will also adsorb tannins, as well as excess organic waste/compounds (it lasts much longer and can be recharged).
Water changes will gradually reduce both tannins and excess organic waste too.
