    Hi guys,

I'm hoping to set up a 2ft Shrimp Tank and I need some recommendations for LED light, Eheim filter and Hailea Chiller

I'm hoping for a Eheim Classic filter 2213 for a 60litres tank. As I am quite new to external canister filters, I went around different shops and observed the set ups. I'm not sure of what inlets and outlets to used for the filter in a shrimp tank.

Also, can I clean the filter without the use of a double tap?

Lastly, may I know which Hailea Chiller can I use with a Eheim Classic 2213. I heard that the flow rate matters but I don't quite understand that as well.

    Sorry for the beginner questions!

Re: Recommendations for 2ft Shrimp Tank

Eheim 2213 would be suitable for 2ft shrimp tank, it will work with the chiller too, but most shrimp keepers prefer to over-filter and compensate for the reduction of flow through the chiller, so you might consider a larger filter (or one which matches the chiller recommendations) for better efficiency.

The classic filters can be cleaned without the use of double taps, but it'll be easier with the double taps as you can just shut them and disconnect just the hoses and filter for maintenance, rather than having to remove everything from the tank.

    Thank you for the advice.

For the cleaning of filter, can I just unplug both tubes from the Filter and put the tube into the pail?

May I know which Hailea chillers can be used with a 2213?? I'm aware there are 2 series!

I'm using hailea hc100a with hose 12/16 on my 2213. Hope it helps.

If you don't have double taps, then you'll just need to remove the inlet and outlet pipes from the tank and drain the water from the hoses before you unplug both hoses from the filter (or else your floor will be flooded).

I feel Up Aqua Pro Z LED would be good enough for most plants for a shrimp tank, unless you looking to keep high light requirement plants. I'm currently growing Monte Carlos with this and feel it's very effective. furthermore, the pricing of this LED is pretty reasonable too, you can get it from east ocean in havelock.

As for 2213, I'm also using that filter. I think it's sufficient for a 2ft tank but sometimes I wish I have bought a step-up 2215. Cause the flow is actually greatly reduced as I'm using a lily pipe outlet.

Initially, I just wanted a 2111, because was afraid that the flow would be too great and cause a cyclone in my tank. However, now with the 2213, the flow is just satisfactory for me.

Better get the taps if you can afford it, I had to suck on the inlet tube a few times already and had fertilized fish water in my mouth. I wanted to clean my filter today too, but the thought of sucking water is putting me off haha... Maybe I will go get the taps later too.

What temperature can it achieve? Is it ok if I get one that's above the 100a?
    Difference in electricity bills?

If I'm using their given outlet, will the flow be greatly reduced? And what outlet do you recommend for a shrimp tank?

I set my temperature at 25 degree Celsius. Kick in every 30min for around 5min during the day. At night it hardly starts as I switch on my AC.

A higher horsepower model eg hc28a will be better for your 2ft tank.

As for the increase in utility bill, around sg0 max on hot months.

Well, without double taps to shut the hoses, and if the intake and outflow pipes are still in the tank, when you remove the hoses from the filter the siphon with the tank is still active so all the water from the tank will just siphon back out from those hoses and you'll have a nice flood, just give it a try and see.

For the classic Eheim filters without double taps, always remember to remove the intake and outflow from the tank first, before removing the filter hoses.

Personally I feel the eheim rain bar is horrible looking haha, but has it advantages as I believe there is less dead spots compared to a lily pipe. But looks wise, a lily pipe would win the competition in any given day.

The flow rate would already be reduced due to filter media, the flow rate as per advertised is without media.

So if I get a chiller, where would I put the double taps? And is 1/10 the most ideal for 2 ft?

Depends on how you do tank maintenance, some people install the double tap between the filter and chiller, so they can shut the taps and isolate just the filter alone for maintenance. Some install the double tap after the chiller, if they plan to regularly clean both the filter and chiller at the same time.

1/10 chillers are commonly used for 2ft tanks, they'll work well. If you have the budget and space though, higher powered chillers will chill the water faster and kick in less often, but cost is more and the unit size is larger.

1 for inlet pipe n 1 outlet pipe. tats wat a shop told me when I bought the 2211. bt I was put off by the price. 25 each; 2 would be 50.

anyone help with the sizing of the lily pipes 2211? inlet is 9/12; outlet is 12/16. what size of the lily pipe should I use?

Was using the Eheim Aquacompact40 for my Gex 2 ft planted shrimp tank.
Changed to a faster flowrate filter in order to use a chiller.

    Current setup:
    - Eheim 2228
    - Hailea HC130A
    - Up Z series LED
