How did you bring them back from BKK? Got a picture of your tank to view?
Hello,
I recently acquired some Ebiclub PRLs from BKK and they are behaving very strangely in the tank. All of them are congregating at the filter. Is that normal? Also, many of them like to swim to the surface and their feelers keep getting stuck to the tank and they will be immobilised there. May I know if such behavior are normal? I've never really witness my other shrimps like that before.

That is cool! No hassle?
Shrimps are in shock...
Not going to curse but given such situation best not to feed and change your water 50% with good anti chlorine applied. Put in activated carbon and take it out a week later.
Next best alternative is to separate all out to another stable tank.
I had a similar occurrence and within 2 week my population halved. Most likely they are not acclimatized properly.

Where the shrimps slowly drip acclimated for a few hours before introduction into your tank?
Most likely those shrimps came from very different water parameters, so they get stressed when put into our local tank water conditions.
I actually introduced them into a stable tank. The water had other CRS, which I transferred out yesterday. Ammonia 0, GH 6, pH 6.2. But right now, most of them are behaving normally already. No casualties.
I was searching online and I saw a guide that said to float the bag for half an our, slowly mix the tank water with the water in the bag, little by little, then tilt the bag and allow water to flow in and let the shrimps come out by themselves.
great to hear that. Look forward to pictures of these beauties...
The floating bag method is okay for fishes and shrimps that come from water conditions that are similar to your tank water... but for more gradual acclimation or if the bag water parameters are different or unknown, then the drip acclimation method will help to greatly minimize stress and ensure higher survival rates.
Here a guide on how its done: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/all-yo...t-acclimation/
Just need a length of silicon air hose, a plastic flow valve and a clip or suction cup, all in only costs just a few dollars from most LFS. Maybe you can try that in the future.![]()
Hi, guy I will be going to Bangkok next week probably will buy 5 good grade CRS shrimp do you think shall i hide in my luggage or declare at custom will they confiscate it and question me as i going with family member and not want to get trouble with our sillypore rule any advise thank![]()
You can bring 30 pieces packed in not more than 3 litres of water per person per trip. Have to be put in checked-in luggage. I've brought fishes and shrimps in from overseas a few times and no issues from the customs side.
Here are the guidelines from AVA: http://www.ava.gov.sg/InformationFor...Fish/index.htm
Not too sure about the regulations for declaration at bangkok customs... in my case, i travelled from hong kong and checked with the airline and they said it was okay, so i just checked it in with luggage and didn't encounter any issues.
Can the shrimp survive the ordeal, ie check in? Did you package it using foam boxes? By the way which Hk shops did you get your prawns and are they much cheaper than Sg? Thinking of getting some from either Bk or Hk. Tks

I put the bags of shrimps and fishes into a coleman cooler box and sealed it tight with duct tape (in case any of the bags burst, at least the box wouldn't leak), and the cooler box helps protect and insulate the bags during the flight too. All livestock survived the trip. Btw, i bought them just before leaving for the airport, so including transit and flight time, they only spent around 7-8+ hours in the bags before i reached home.
I shopped at Tung Choi Street at Mong Kok (aka goldfish street), can't remember the names of the shops i bought them from as i went into alot of places, there are many there so you can shop to your hearts content. The selection and prices are not that much different from Singapore (though some of the shops do sell unique reptiles and critters), but its the experience of shopping there that is interesting.![]()
any shop in bkk near platunam?
I thgt can't bring liquid on planes?
Must either check in luggage or less than certain amt of liquid if u hand carry.
Can the shrimps withstand the pressure of atmospheric diff in planes?
Jus curious as I also thgt of buying some from either hong Kong or KL. Kl will be no issue as it by bus.

It was a standalone piece, too bulky to put into my luggage, so i just got the airlines to stick a "fragile" label on it and then checked it in (sealed it tightly with duct tape and made sure its secure)... not sure if all that helped, but the cooler box didn't get too bashed up in transit, still arrived in one piece.
Yeah, they have to be put into check-in luggage, the water volume in the bags is too much to be allowed for hand carry.
I guess the shrimps could take the changes in air pressure, mine were all okay in transit.![]()
