simple bare bottom works best , some tight secured plants on thin driftwood , can consider water lily and marginal plants too

Maybe do a shrimp paradise pond... get 300-400 fire red shrimps from breeder (cheaper in bulk), chuck them in, no predators, feed liberally, when population hit 10,000 shrimps take a photo.

I've seen planted bichir tanks with European keepers. A good load of such set-ups can be found on youtube I believe.

So far I have seen many aro keepers comm them together. I guess its the different swimming habits. Clown loach are very quick and stay on the bottom most of the time. Water lilies have big round floating leaves and purple or white flowers. They still need to be planted as they feed through their roots. You can also look at lotus as well. You can keep them in submerged pots for easy maint.

By the way have you looked through Green chapter's website? They have some outdoor setups you can get ideas from.

    Thanks Bryan

Yes, I have several white and purple water lilies up on my roof terrace, blooming non stop since I planted them 4 years ago. I was thinking of this too but the airwell isnt getting much sunlight

As for GC, I did approach them to quote me for the work. After about 10 exchanges of mails, with many questions, no sound-no picture. Sigh! Maybe they are doing well enough without my business. Hahaha! I hope to be able to complete the work by end June.

Hey how goes the planning? I'm going to embark on my on "Bite off more than I can chew" project with my 6ft tank that I'm going to turn planted.

I would suggest for your pond if you don't want to plant in the water, to plant above with a wall garden. if you can find large branches of wood to make use of the space above the tank then it can be attached with orchids or ferns or air plant. I would have some kind of viewing panels (glass or acrylic) around the open area so the aros can't jump out. Nets or fencing would be rather unsightly.

a 6' planted would be NICE

I am still awaiting quotes... disappointing builders. Anyhow, I intend to use a clip system to have a panel of acrylic to raise the height. Removable to show-off to my guest when required

Raised viewing panel work as well, branches on top sounds good, put dead cricket on it, can see leap feeding in action

Re: Advice Needed for "River Safari"

I am totally pissed by the two contractors that had offered to build my pond. After more than a month of delay, they totally kept radio silence after some ground survey and measurements. And I am not talking about small sums that they were demanding... Totally unprofessional!!!

Do anyone have a reliable builder to recommend? Fibreglass structure preferred. Thanks!

Sucks to hear your project stalling! I don't have experience with FGTs but people in AF highly recomend a builder called Thomas, i guess you can find his contacts there? One AF forummer also featured his tank before and it was pretty huge. some also mention Mainland do custom FGTs.
