Will like to seek some information on pencil fish.

I got a pencil fish that seems to have a slightly bloated stomach, seems healthy, so I presume it is pregnant. And it seems to be circling round a surface of my tank everytime I walk pass the tank.

Is this its breeding habits? Is it a livebearer or egg bearer? Or is it having some problem?

    I have accidentally bred them.

How many you have and what breed.
I keeping beckfordi so the very red ones are male so the male will kept chasing the female and the eggs are scatter around the tank and on the plants.

So far only 4 successful fries.

I have bred dwarf pencils before in a community tank with lots of plants.
Their behaviour is a male and a female ready to breed will swim very close (touching distance) to each other in sort of a dance.

This can carry on for a few days and they will spawn in a selected site, usually a bit dark and densely planted.

I find the use of peat and frozen food to be especially effective in getting them to be in spawning mood.
