    wondered whether anyone out there have night lights for their planted tanks. is it suitable and how will it affect the plants?

    I don't have night light in my tank. I don't think it will affect plant much. But plants and fish do need some peaceful darkness period for resting.

    just thought it would be nice to simulate moon lighting in the tank like the marine setups. using marine tubes would be an exp option.
    then can observe some of the nocturnal activities of our tank inhabitants

    I did night light for my new lighting, see bottom right, yet to try out the effect.

    I used 12 ultra bright blue leds in my hood a while back and it worked ok. It made spot lights. I since have changed to 2 12 inch cold cathode lights. I think this works a lot better.

    some people have suggested filing down the tip of leds to make their light more diffused, but I think those very thin veil cloths or very fine plastic mesh may work as well. Or maybe a translucent plastic sheet.

    think i'll check out the feasibilty of cold cathode lights for the moonlights.
    anyone knows where can i get them (other than sim lim).
