Chiller does not run at full watt for 24 hours. If is on and off depending on the temp set. My 3 ft with chiller only cost $10 a month, measured using kill a watt.
Cost wise is a little tough to calculate. Running aircon (1000W) for 24 hours a day will cost about $185 dollars base on current electric bill charges. So, depending on your chiller wattage, you can estimate base on this calculation. eg: 100W running 24hrs will be $18.5 per month. Can you let me know where you go to buy the firered and how much it cost you? I'm interested but not sure when I'll start with firered. Maybe tmorrow, next week, next month... hahaha

Hahaha..... Understand chiller doesn't need to run 24hrs. It all depends on where you put your tank and how fast your water get heat up.
It's only a guide and I thought it would be easier for anyone who wish to estimate then they only need to divide base on their equipment wattage and usage time. This should gives the rough estimate of cost per month.
Good for you that you only spend $10 a month.
jits 240w. so about $44 a month? best painted red and bloody mary is AC. good fire red crs heaven, but not happy with price to quality ratio. AC no stock at the moment so i couldn;t buy. BM=15, PR=5, FR=6. i like reds, so i prefer BM and PR more then SS/SSS CRS.
Hahaha.... If and only if your chiller runs non-stop 24hrs for 7 days week. If you chiller kicks in and out very 5 min and run for 5min, it will only be running half the time which would be $22. But I think it will be cheaper since night time will be less kick in and longer interval between kick in and out. $44 is your worst case scenario (nightmare if I may say so) that your chiller runs 24hrs non-stop. You will then have to prepare to buy a new chiller soon. hehehehe...
I do wonder if at the start of kicking in does it utilizes more electricity cause I'm thinking in terms of vehicles where each starts of engine will takes more petrol to push the car. Maybe I'm over thinking this. Don't worry too much. Cross the bridge when you comes to it. If chiller is not having problem and just enjoy your hobby. Many willing and knowledgeable helpers in this forum so fear not.
Its takes more power each start up. But my room if really hot. Wa , I cant afford another one. Would but angmo brand make a difference? Went to a famous shop yesterday and hinted that buying cheaper china brand you get cheap quality. In the end he him self using china brand.....
Within expectation that your room is hotter than before adding chiller. You didn't get a chiller for yourself? You really treat the shrimps better than you treat yourself. I think many shrimps lover do.
Price is always a factor no matter what and how you think about it. At times we might think that it is more worth while to get something better at a higher price than a cheaper one. In the end if the price is really expensive, you will try to make do with cheaper one.
Maybe it might helps if you put a fan to help with the chiller to cool down the temperature. I don't have any chiller (yet. waiting for my cheap china brand to arrive) and I'm using a fan in my 2ft tank which can manage to drop the temperature to 28 degrees. Room temperature is about 30 degree. 1-2 degrees is normally what a fan can cope with for a 2ft tank.
Can't help you much with your room temperature. I'm feeling the heat myself. Turn on your aircon. No aircon then install one. After shrimps also got aircon. hehehe.

I bought few years back when it just released in the market, now a days there are many different model probably around $20-$30. You can search at alibaba or qoo10 or dealextreem, etc
caused my 2ft tank to split the seams while installing a new divider..... now leaking. i want to slap my self. now need to get a new tank and hope all the shrimples survive. any tips to speed up cycling? not changing water in the temp tank(4l tank)....... im so toot .....![]()
Store some of the water from your leaked tank and put them in your new tank. Should speed up cycling. Keep your old filter material together with the water from leaked tank.
Hope all goes well.
Just did that. Will do 10% water chang every 3day using drip system. I have got 2 panda loach and 1 saimies algae eater. Worried about ammonia.
when your bill comes, can you tell us how much $$$ increase? thanks
