As per topic. I've actually sent the filter for servicing for Qian Hu 2 days back and the impeller was changed. However, upon powering up my filter, there's a constant rattling noise that prompted me to bring it back to Qian Hu earlier this morning. However, the service representative insists that the noise is due to air lock.

Henceforth, I will like to seek the advice of fellow hobbyist if I should change out the impeller shaft myself to eradicate this rattling noise. I'm running 3 units of 2213 and 2 units of 2215 and is basing the 'noisy' part as compared to other filters in operation. Since the impeller is brand new, I can only seem to narrow down to the impeller shaft (worn out perhaps?) being the component that is causing the noise.

Thank you for the forthcoming advice.

I had a 2215 and bought it because it was known for being quiet. For me, it didn't start out quiet, often had to turn the filter on and off to let the air out. Was it the same for your other 2215s?
After awhile the noise should stop - I think it's due to biofilm build up on the plastic surfaces and the impeller itself. If the impeller is brand new I suspect air bubbles will stick to it, like when my filter was new.

I had the filter running with rattling noise initially which prompted the servicing and changing of impeller at Qian Hu. I have attempted tilting the filter at various angles to eliminate majority of air pockets trapped and then, had it running for an entire night. The filter still runs with the rattling noise. What will be a good definition of 'a while'? Will it be letting the filter run for more than a night?

If the impeller shaft doesn't cost too much, I will just buy it and try if a new one will stop the rattling noise.

Hmm..for me 'a while' was at least 2-3 weeks. It's a sort of buzzing, rattling noise right? I think if it's not loud and if the filter works fine that's normal. I tried turning it on and off, leaving on its side, shaking it etc.
Try double checking the O-ring seals on the canister and that the retaining clips are secure - air being sucked in is a cause of this type of noise.
What you can do, since you already have other 2215 is try swapping out the impeller of the existing 'broken in' ones to see if it helps.
Of course, that might be messy and may not work, but it's just an idea. Another idea is to use silicone grease (something like this http://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Greas.../dp/B006QMYW6E) but I've never seen any of that here in SG.
