There is white patches(looks like some tear or wear off kinda of stuff) on the top back on one of my cardinals. What's wrong with it? It's behaviour doesn't appear to be normal to me.. What could be the problem? If there are any problems, what are the solutions to it? Pls advise!

Fungus growth most likely. Treat with methylene blue.

Not sure if u r refering to white spots? - Tetras are very prone to this No 1 Tetra killing disease. Else it could be fin rot or the fungus infections. Quickily treat it with medic solution.(General blue or yellow solutions are often good enough) ASAP - Tetras are community fishes, which means any disease amongst one is spread very quickily.

You can get those $1 per bottle solution. (Blue or yellow solution) - Aquastar @ Yishun sells them very cheap. But if u are looking for the better - not sure about the rest, but I'm quite comfortable with ocean-free products.

That's really weird. Did you follow the instructions on the box closely?

ok...must be the sae getting real excited. When u drop the blue solution, yr sae quickly came up and was 'eating' the solution? Chances is that it thought it was food, but was caught in a 'chemical' situation...
Next time, try to put yr hand in to frighten the fishes away when pouring the solution. alternate - can put the solution at the outlet of the filter output....(quickly wash n dissolve away). Can put into the filter medium as well if it is not too troublesome....
Seem like u got a real fishy problem there....

think ya right. Cause when i net up my SAE, it's mouth was stained with blue solution. I guessed it was greedy that causes it's death. I'm really sad to see him like that. Bought it around a week. Looks like I'm gonna look for a new one soon.

Your SAE is one feisty hungry guy. But my condolences. Don't blame yourself, it wasn't really your fault.

Now, i got phopia dripping medicine in my tank now. When do i have to change water? Two days later? When i saw my SAE behaving weirdly, i changed water immediately. I thought the water might be too medicated for them. Is that a right thing to do at that point of time? Really confused..

If you have dosed correctly, the medicine can be left in there for as long as the diesease is around. Once the Cardinals have healed, you can put in some activated carbon to remove the medicine.

What's activated carbon? Can i just change water to remove the medicine?

U can do a 50% water change tho... however. if next time u are dealing wif diseases in a planted tank, its best to take out those cardinals and put them in a hospital tank....

active carbon - "charcoal" - fish shops sells them - carbon $1 to $2 a pack. It is effective in removing alot of chemicals in water (including useful ones) people use it to remove ammonia. But i seldom use them - dirty the water.
Change water? Hmm..no right or wrong answer. Drastic water change kills them immediately as well. But in general, it is alright to change some(some is subjective to tank size and water condition)of the water. Maybe u can follow me. I always keep a pail of water at home. Fill up and leave it. The chlorine will dissolve then. The water is use for top-up and emergency purpose. (If u observe, most fish shops keeps a tank of water as well.)
