Just want to share this video of my new 2 feet tank that replace my leaked tank. I was pretty disappointed when my tank leak something like 10 days ago. Now looking at how my shrimps are shrimping away, the satisfaction is priceless. Notice quite a few had leaked tank recently. Here I hope you receive really soon. Thought I share a video of the my shrimps shrimping crazy.

    Happy viewing.

This is day 1 (I think it's 10th May 2014. Getting old. *sigh*). I've started to transfer my shrimps from the temporary holding of 7 liters Styrofoam box due to leaked tank. They have been in there for around 7 days. Probably cope up too long. This is what happens after I transfer over. I've never seen my shrimps behave in this manner before for the past 2-3 months. I did have some concern that there is something wrong initially as I've just transfer them. After so many hours and I've not noticed any death gives me some relief. Will have to continue to monitor. Keeping finger cross.

This is 12th May 2014 (in the afternoon). Instead of just shrimping at the bottom. Some decided to explore the upper half of the tank.

Wow, so many shrimps. Don't you put some floating plants for them to rest?

Where got magic potion. When my tank leaked, I quickly save some of the water before I rescue my shrimps. I know I probably kill some newborn that are too small for me to take my time searching for them. Dump all the shrimps into a 7 liters Styrofoam box. Kept about 9 liters of leaked tank water into few bottles of 1.5 liters coca cola bottles. Lucky got enough bottles on standby. When I get my new tank and soil, I simply put back the 9 liters water and add on more water. Waited few hours and got concern that shrimps not doing well in the 7 liters Styrofoam box (7-8 days already) so I take risk and decided to put some into the new tank to test. As I keep doing so, I start to notice their shrimping behavior. When not many, it's not so nice. So I added more. Looks nicer. Add some more. Looks greats shrimping round and round the tank. Got excited since I've never seen them behave like this before. Then some more and some more. Now I have totally forgotten I'm taking risk on new tank with no water cycle. By the time I realize, I've almost added most of them. What the heck. Put all in. hahahaha. That's how I ended up dumping every shrimps on day 1.

After some times (Not sure how long. Few hours at least) watching them shrimping round and round the tank, I start to get a little concern since they have never behave like this before. Concern that if they don't stop, they might die of exhaustion. lol.... Silly me. They can always stop when they are tired.

Seems to be ok up till now. Still keeping my finger cross and monitor closely for casualty. Praying as I go. I don't have the patience to wait for water to cycle also. Who knows how many weeks that will be. If no death for the next 2 weeks then I think it should be alright.

So..... what got magic potion. Anti-chlorine I got use. Mineral Rocks. That's all I put. No other chemicals. Just plain lazy.

Now that my new tank is running, I've gotten over my leaked tank. hehehe..... Hope you same same too.

Shrimp running up and down as pe your video is not a good sign.

    It shows either
1)your new setup tank is not cycled properly or
2)you never acclimatised them properly or
3)your new tank may have contain something which may not be shrimp compatible.

Its may sound crude for the above, but I guess at the moment is to watch them and hope they are able to settle down well.

I agree with Bro Spid. That is not a good sign when they keep going in circles and not grazing off substrate.

I highly recommend getting ammonia absorbers like benibachi or lowkeys

Re: RCS Shrimping like crazy in new tank

Although not a good sign but I must admit that I love the view. Not sure about anyone else. That thought came to my mind at the very beginning and I was concern. As each hour goes by and no death. As each day goes by without death. Will have to monitor as each week goes by. I've no intention to add in any more stuff for now.

BTW Spid, I don't consider it as crude to advise what you think I might have done wrong. Otherwise how will I learn then. Now at least I know this shrimping action is consider as not a good sign from at least 2 of you (Spid and Naraki) and what might be possibly wrong. Helps me when I monitor and know what action to take if any death occurs.

I welcome more comment. Good sign or not good sign or anything you might wish to add. My experience alone is always not enough and I always have to pray. hahaha.

    Thank you.

More or less Day 3. Safe and sounds for all the shrimps. Everyday pray pray and hope to survive each day. Hahaha.....

Anyone has any video showing what exactly is consider as normal active for the shrimps. I can't visualize when terms like active, heavy, etc is in use. It is quite relative.

Any good soul to show a normal active of shrimps one an average day will helps very much.

    Thank you in advance.

Check out Lowkeys Shrimp on YouTube. You'll find that they'll be feeding off food or tank wall algae and not constantly swimming rounds and rounds.

Re: RCS Shrimping like crazy in new tank

From my humble knowledge, when shrimps swim up and down frantically, either a female has molted or it's a distress signal. But since your shrimps are still well, no deaths, they will probably get over it soon.
You could probably add some hornworts or frogbits to suck up your nitrates or etc fast.
It worked very well for my new tank.

Re: RCS Shrimping like crazy in new tank

    Hi Starlett,

Understand that. Only thing is that my shrimps wasn't shrimping up and down. Pretty much round and around the tank. I'm not sure exactly why but they have stopped now. Think is because I put in algae wafer and all rush for it.

    http://youtu.be/kkhfDBh0Ew0

Maybe it was because it was a new tank and also been cope up in a small space for 1 week or so. Suddenly gotten into a much bigger environment drives them nuts. Hahahaha..... I'll go nuts if I've been staying in a 2 room flat for many years and suddenly I'm given a big house. I'll probably move around and explore the house a lot at the beginning. Hahahaha.... Maybe that's could be one of the reason.

Until I see death knocking, I try not to panick for now and pray.

I'm thinking of hornworts but not frogbits. How do you plant hornworts or do you even plant it. Just let it float???? I really don't want to block the light.
