After numerous times of tying to improve on my hardscape, I finally come up with this!

First try : This is my first ever try on doing hardscape.
I went to a fish farm at Pasir Ris and went to source for nice big wood. However, outcome wasn't what I expected and felt that it was rather difficult to really fit nicely into my tank.

Second try : I felt that maybe the outcome would be much better if I buy a big log of wood so I wouldn't have to fret over positioning the various wood. Therefore, I went to another farmway to try my luck in finding a big piece of wood. However, outcome still didn't appeal to me when I placed it in my tank. It looked kind of waste of space in my tank!

Third try : I felt that maybe the problem lies in the kind of wood that I bought instead of my hardscaping skills cause I did tons of research and reference. Decided to buy bogwood instead, hoping that the outlook would be better.

Fourth try : Got myself poisoned by some images I saw online about using single individual driftwood to come out with a more natural hardscape. Bogwood soon didn't appeal to me because I prefer a dark coloured wood in my tank. Went to another farmway to purchase my wood.

So here's the end of my sharing session, on the process I went through to come out with better hardscape ideas. Couldn't help myself cause I have real itchy hands and love to try something new and make this hobby interesting! Due to financial and time restraint as I'm still an NSF, I couldn't find the time and money to go Into full planted and bring this hobby to the next level. So could only settle down on trying hardscaping for now

Thanks for viewing and feedback will be greatly appreciated feel free to share ideas and poison everyone who have itchy hands like mine!

I think a lot voice down to personal preference, a black water setup in my opinion, suits a purely DW scape. Combined with a few well position rocks, it resembles a amazon-liked biotope setup. I too encountered problems while choosing DWs, ended up getting 2 different colored pieces that didn't appeal to me. But I realised slowly, many a times the hard scape may seem not that pleasing to the eyes, it'll surprisingly change for the better with some greenery on them. I don't have experience doing a pure DW scape, but your 1st and 4th scape look pretty good to me!

Haha yeap it certainly looks better with greenery.. Sadly, the fishes that I keep doesn't allow me to. Tried putting nana and moss tied on wood and the next day, shocking discovery. My nana nearly went bald without leaves and all the moss got pulled out. Cause most of the fish in my tank loves to nibble on my plants.

If both, you should put more plants for them to nibble and let them enjoy the plants (At least you can put frogbits for them). Then they will not affect your hardscape.

Your last scape looks nice! It's a pity you can't even keep hardy and low maintenance plants due to your fishes nibbling on it but the good thing is that this tank is a hassle free setup...... just suck out and top up water weekly. Don't need to bother about good plant grow and pesky algae problems.

Yeap that's true! My fishes are pure destroyers and doesn't hesitate to ruin any plants that I put in it.

Your tank looks like a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft? With a tank this size, you should have kept Bosemani or other various Rainbow fishes and Congo tetras cos they'll look stunning in there and the best part is you won't have the problem of them eating the plants.
