Before someone suggest changing the pump, what was it used as in your tank?
hi bros
i just bought a small Resun SP980 pump 9w 550L/hr it has a high head of 1.2-1.3 meters (tested)
but it is very hot and noisy. my tank temp rise from 32 to 34 degrees!
my tank is only 10gallons
is it the output pipes too small causing the motor jamming and thus high heat and noise?
i really hate it man.... what can i do?
thanks

If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.

hi bro
to act as a filter and pump water to my chiller. previously i used a resun magi200 internal filter 5watt 200L/hr. it was quiet and cool pump.
but head is only 0.5m. so i change to this pump 9watt 550L/hr with a head of 1.3m. this pump really noisy and hot...
i can bear with the noise but it rise the temp by 2 degrees!
alamark man...it is because of the higher head that cos it so hot?
thanks
becaude of the higher wattage i believe

hi bros
thanks for advice
cant imagine changing from 5w to 9w, the temp can rise by 2 degrees... really bad.
thanks
that might be because of the higher rpm of the propeller in the pump, hence more heat is generated.
ive used a 3000lph pump in a 2' tank before, im literally sweating, when standing right next to it.

hi bro benny
ya i can feel this pump vibrating my small 1.5ft tank. i guess i will have to live with it or change back to the small 5watt filter.
and my chiller will need to work harder. 2 degrees rise is no joke.... haiz....
Yeah, heat from motors and pumps do tend to affect smaller water volumes much more, i noticed this effect when i used the same internal filter in a 1ft tank vs a 2 ft tank... the 2ft tank temp didn't change, but the 1ft tank temperature increased noticeably by 1-2 degrees.
Its also possible that different brands and models could run abit hotter than others at the same wattage (probably due to different motor specs and casing designs), so i guess you'll probably have to test a few to find out. But as the others here have mentioned, generally the lower the wattage the less heat generated.
hi bro Urban Aquaria,
ok thanks for advice bro. hmm so i think its normal for temp to rise when the pump wattage is higher...
i will run with my chiller to see how much it affects the chiller performance. if a little bit then nvrmind la...hahahha
thanks bros
