Just got a second hand T4 PL 55w. But am surprised that the light intensity is much less than the the new 36w pl light that I've bought a week ago. Why is this so? And I'm quite surprise that the T4 tube though longer is a lot thinner than my 36w tube. Can anyone please enlighten me?

Since you have mention that this T4 is a second hand, its could be near his shelf life.

T4 means 4/8 inch tube diameter. T5 means 5/8 inch.

Our usual 36W PL and 55W PL are T5. So they are thicker than the newer T4 tubes.

I have a 55W PL/T4 tube on hand and I measured it to be 20".
Our usual 55W PL/T5 tube (2G11 base) is 21.1" as mentioned at http://www.ahsupply.com/bulbs.htm

So you must get back a T4 tube to replace your old one because the T5 one won't fit into the light holder as well.

Correct me if I am wrong.

So far I have seen it for sale at Rainbow (Serangoon North) and Aqua Star (Yishun Blk 934). Price - not sure. Maybe you can call them up to check.
