    Greeting AQ bros,

i need some help. I have a shrimp tank which I set up 1 month ago.
unfortunately as I was impatient, I dump in 20 shrimps and they all have officially died yesterday.

i am planning to cycle my tank properly again before I buy shrimps so I need advice!

    here is my set up:
    1)1.5ft tank
2)Ada Amazonia without any 'powder' in between(have been running for 1 month)
    3)t5 lights
    4)boyu fan
    5)hang on filter
    6)CO2 @ 1 bubble/ 2sec

for last 1 month I have been using
    1)CRS haven Bactermax
    2)CRS mineral snow

    my tank consist of
    1)mini fissiden
    2)spiky moss
    3)hair grass
    4)driftwood

    please advice me
    1)how should I cycle?
    2)what product should I use
3)what parameters to test( I never test b4)
4)what shrimps can be kept with a tank using fan and not chiller

feeling so guilty that so many shrimps die in my hand and so much money wasted but still a failure.
really need help. I see everyone so successful in AQ. All advice are welcome!!

    cheers!

    Re: Ada Amazonia

are you restarting the tank? crs can be kept without a chiller but dont expect them to breed so readily. ada soil just need do about 50% water change every week as it leeches a lot of ammonia. you can try mosura bt-9 or if you want liquid bacteria I suggest ATM colony. most importantly buy a test kit as it will allow you to check the water parameters. for ada soil 6 weeks of cycling is minimum to ensure that your shrimps are safe. after 6 weeks do a 90% water change and add all the supplements and you're ready to go

1 month of cycling I feel should be quite safe already if you have been changing water regularly during the cycling period.

I too experienced a fair share of deaths, after all my cherries dead due to insufficient knowledge of cycling a tank I moved straight to crs:P thankfully my crs are thriving and have many offsprings

    hi Arron,

I am lazy to change it now and only use the soil for awhile.
Thanks for the advice! I didn't know I have to change so much water for Ada.

so after 6 weeks, I just need to add bacteria and nth else?

May I know the parameters that should be checking? On my way to Lfs to buy test kits now.

Don't really trust Lfs at times as they ask to buy a lot of redundant things

    Re: Ada Amazonia

First week I changed 50% everyday, 2nd week I changed 50% every other day. I feel airpump will make the water cycle faster. With our current high temperature will cycle faster too.

Hmm you said your tank has been running for about a month, shouldn't it already be cycled?
