    hi all,
My pair of ballon rams just spawned in my 2 feet community pool.
So far the eggs have hatched and the pair are pretty good parents, closely guarding the frys (not free swimming yet).

But I am wondering if I should remove the other fishes in the tank.

Currently having 2 platy, 7 neons, 3 otos and 4 chocolate gouramis.

    Any advise?
Anyone has any experience feeding with baby brine shrimps? How to put the shrimps near the frys so that they can feed?

    Thanks in advance

Forgot to add that my tank is quite heavily planted...

Yap, with all those predators around, expect a lower fry survival rate. Whatever fry that lives through the ordeal are probably the fittest.

One can use a turkey baster to bring baby BS to the brood but looking at your fish list, the platies and neons will also make a rush for it. If your tank has ample circulation, some BS should reach the fry.

Unnecessary disturbance may disrupt the parental instincts, resulting in fry being eaten by the parents. You can try removing the other fishes but then again, that's a risk you may/or may not want to take. IMHO, breeding is best left in separate tanks.

    Thanks Ron

    Decided not to move anything

All frys are free swimming now..
The parents are having a hard time running around keeping them in place

So far other fishes can't even get close, but I am worrying that soon the frys would be swimming around

Anyway, will be hatching some brine shrimps soon

Another surprise.... My platy is giving birth!!!
Suddenly all of them are having babies...

ahdi, not sure how many will survive....
Will be updating this thread on the progress
I will try to post a picture of the frys

When I came back home at 10 pm .... ZERO....

sigh... need to buy a breeding tank soon....

    Re:

Yap, we succeed through our failures. Be optimistic in knowing you have a fertile pair and that they exercise parental instincts. It would have been more frustrating had the pair turned out to be egg-eaters or the two just don't pair up! [been there, done that]

Get a breeding tank if you feel inclined to observe the whole works and if the fry make it this time, that satisfaction will wash all those tears away

I will be tearing down a 24"L x 12"W x 14"H tank and probably discarding it. It's yours if you need that honeymoon suite for the rams and indicate your interest via PM.

    Thanks Ron.

I got an extra tank from my in-laws, will be setting it up this weekend.

Hmm wonder what should I put in there.
