Hi, would appreciate input/ advice etc. in this project...the attached is Draft layout in 2ft tank Attachment 41484

Aim is to have a low maintenance setup for wild Betta with the followings:
    - Corner Hamberg Matten Filter (slow water flow)
    - Ada Africana substrate for better buffering at low pH
    - Plants: low tech ammonia consuming plants
@lucky bamboo plus mosses (need advices/input)
@ floater plants to shield light - reach half height to achieve darker ambience at bottom half to calm nervous species.
@ not intend to use CO2

Any ideas, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Lucky bamboo will melt underwater...
Google for low tech plants...you may not even need ADA soil in the first place, alternatively, you can read my blog (see signature below)...
    PH buffering?...for what fauna?

Scaping wise... you need more stones and hardscapes...

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)

For the types of plants and fauna you're planning to keep, maybe just go for a thin sand substrate with stacks of ketapang leaf litter, it'll lower the pH naturally and tint the water with tannins to create the blackwater look... and it'll cost less too.

Yes, IAL is certainly part of the scape, I have to ascertain the amount over a period of time as too much too soon would cause drastic pH decline.
WongCE blog has great reference source for many aspects of aquascape.
    Many thanks to all.
