Hope it's not too late, but I also got ADA Koke stone from FB, using it in my shrimp planted tank and GH increase was way too big. Mine increased by about 10GH within a week. Would suggest you monitor your GH first before adding any shrimps inside.

Oh...thanks for the head up, appreciated it.

I guess I will set up as a planted tank and monitor the GH before putting any shrimp inside.

If I plant foreground plants on the slope, will the plant help to uphold the slope shape to prevent erosion of the soil over time. Anyone have experience on this.

It depends on how steep the slope is and whether those plants have deep/strong root structures... i've had HC planted in unsupported slopes and overtime the slope naturally erode and flatten out. So for such setups, it'll be better to use rocks or wood or plastic barriers to help support the slope.

Thanks. I have put rock under the slope as support base and pour a lot of soil over it to make a slope.

I change my soil to ADA soil. I forget how to rescape to a the original scape. Here is the new scape. Now the tank is cycling.

Will go and get some plant and foreground plant or mosses.redoplantedtank1.jpg

I think you need 2-3 pieces of those very big rocks that amano uses for the bigger tanks. Just a thought, i'm equally new, would it be better if you place all the rocks around the 1/3 position of the tank and have the rest planted with foreground plants (http://www.thegreenmachineonline.com...s-introduction) this is a read for iwagumi.

    Thank you for the link.

For the type of stone I use, I couldn't find a bigger one so I have to pile up the stone.I try not to mix different type of stone in a tank.

The XL unzan stone at fishy business will be a great ideal stone for a big tank like yours

Too bad, I already bought a box of koke stone. Not sure whether unzan stone will alter the parameter of the tank water.

Bought some plant and started to plant today. Hopefully it will grow. Glosso sure is hard to plant.

Usually the cloudiness from soil dust should only be for a few hours after initial setup, the dust will settle and your filter should be able to clear it up relatively quickly.

If you see the tank water starting to cloud up after a few days, then that is most likely just bacterial bloom (usually due to the excess ammonia and organic compounds in the water)... quite common in new cycling tanks. That sort of bacterial bloom should disappear after a short while too.

Yep agreed, so I finally took a good look and it dawned on me that it was actually algae bloom (green water) :/ Got a UV sterilizer 18W. Hopefully it clears up! Thanks for sharing UA! Sorry TS if I'm off topic. Hope you don't experience cloudy green water too hehe..

Not a problem with me. It is a chit chat thread sometime we do OT but it is fine by me as long as it is about plant/water/anything that talk about aquarium. Cheers.

I have been dosing bacteria liquid to the tank every day. Now I put 10 fish to keep the tank stablise and then remove them and put some shrimp in.
