Hello, could anyone take a look at the two pictures hyperlinked and tell me what nutrient is missing? I suspect it's either K or Ca but cannot confirm. Went looking for those tables but didn't find anything that fitted.

Just cleaned out the blue green algae in my tank about a week back too. But it wasn't very bad. Also just added H.polysperma and H.difformis to suck up whatever is left and a pot of R.Macaranda too.

Currently, I got lushgro, K2SO4 and KNO3. Lushgro seems to bring about blue green algae. Dunno why.[/url]

Its not K or Ca but likely to be NO3. The appearance of BGA along with it more or less confirms it. Add more of the KNO3 to about 7-10ppm 1-3x a week depending on the light, critter loading and plant mass. Do weekly 50-70% water changes to prevent buildup.

No... more fish = more NH3 (not NO3) = more algae

I looked at other pictures in your album. There seem to be discus in that same tank. I think they could have provided sufficient NO3 if you are feeding them alot. Perhaps you like to try some PO4 as well to balance things up. Say 1.0ppm to 1.5ppm PO4 per week.

BTW - E.quad needs more light than E.tenellus.

NO3 by two idicators, the BGA and the leaves are transparent.

    Add more KNO3.

Fish waste alone will still not provide enough in CO2 enriched tanks.

    Tom:

I have 2 tanks that I don't purposely dose NO3. The amount of NO3 that entered the tanks happens to be bundled in the Lushgro-Aqua fertiliser. One has about 2ppm NO3 per week and the other got < 1 ppm NO3 per week.

These tanks are well-stocked with bioload and heavily planted. And the fish are generously fed about 3 times a day. Sometimes with bloodworms too.

The plants don't show any N deficiency as far as I can tell. And no BGA so far.

In my 3rd tank, there's little bioload compared to the other two. For this tank I do dose 20ppm NO3 per week.

So adding lush grow to the sub is not fertilizing N?
Doesn't matter where you add it, and less so at lower light levels.

You will get to a point where fish waste alone adds enough nutrients, like a non CO2 tank, heavily fed system etc.

I've seen decent results with Discus and about 50% of the N came from fish waste.

Much above this much N for a CO2 enriched tank is asking for issues with GW/staghorn etc if you add high light. Perhaps not if you have a huge filter etc. Plant species also can play a role.

Try this Cuban chain sword in that tank and see.

Tom: I did try this plant before in that 5ft tank. Grew like crazy that I had to give it up. See http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...nk1_030307.jpg

BTW - the Lushgro-Aqua is a liquid fertiliser.

    Cheers!
