Bought some of above with other plants from nature last sat. Left them in tub with air stone and under balcony with morning sun as I have no time to setup yet. Saw the fern (all 5 stalks) turn brown after few days even though I submerged them in soil. All were green n nice at purchase. The other plants I bought are ok. Any reason why? Thought they are low tech n hardy? Thanks.

Sun light shaded or direct. Direct sunlight might burn them

This might be the issue bro, ferns - their rhizome to be precise, should never ever ever be planted into the substrate like other root plants. Reason being, they have poor root systems and they take up nutrient through the water column. You might want to immediately remove it from the soil and secure it to a wood ornament/lava rock and such.

Sorry provide wrong plant name earlier. Not sure name but the one on the right (brownish) in 2nd pic. First pic are all ok. These are all planted in substrate at the LFS. Can I plant in soil for the survivors? Balcony have partial morning sun exposed for only 10 mins or so. Other than there, it's bright n airy n so unsure why it will die.

Can't see really clearly... but the plant that is turning brownish seems to be Vallisneria? If it is then it can be rooted, but those type of plants tend to be abit more sensitive than others and often melt when introduced into a new tank environment (in your case the container), once they acclimatize to the new water conditions they'll grow new green leaves again.
