Diy lighting in sump tank

Any tried this? I have attached a 12w downlight from my house reno to use as light source for my planted. So far so good.

Downlight just cost around 15 dollar. Cheaper than any aquarium light set

used to have a submergable LED strip (from failed experiment) in a sump tank to grow hornworts. not sure if applicable as an example.

the hornworts grew out of control and started dying off.. then i removed them.
