Newbie question on filtraion/lighting for planted tank

Hi,

Need some advise on filtration for planted tank.

1) Is Ehiem 2217 too powerful to be used for a 60x45x45(120L) tank?

2) Any idea if 1 Nana Uno LED(single) light feature is sufficent for a 60x45x45(120L) tank with Tropica easy/medium/advance plants?

3) Any easier method to catch tonnes of shrimps to transfer to my new tank? There are just too many hidding in carpet and forest of my tank.

The Eheim 2217 can use used in that tank volume, more filtration and flow is better than less (especially when you start to add other inline equipment), just get a set of double taps to adjust the flow rate accordingly.

For a 45cm depth tank, maybe consider LED lightsets that use higher powered 3W individual LEDs instead, you'll get better depth penetration and hence more light available to plants growing at the lower sections of the tank.

With a 45cm width, you may also need to get lightsets with wider coverage or perhaps suspend the lights higher to spread out the light coverage across the entire tank base.

Catch the shrimps in batches... what i usually do is put an assortment of food into a net and just place it in the tank, once the net is full of shrimps, i'll just scoop them out. Repeat as many times as required. It saves time chasing them and digging into all the plants in a tank.

You could look at the Odyssea Evo LED 24... or if you have deep pockets, maybe can even consider the Maxspect Razor.

I am using a 2217 prefilter connected to a 1200 liters per min powerhead for my 2 ft tank, which has the same dimensions as yours. My fishes and amano shrimps were doing well with this setup (going through fishless cycling tank now after adding amazonia recently).

But if you do feel flow is too strong, you could adjust the rainbar to aim for the water surface (more surface agitation and less disturbance on substrate, depending on rainbar placement) or you can connect those plastic adjustable tap on your return hose to reduce flow rate.

Lily pipe outlet of certain designs can help to reduce the flow rate from rushing out also.

Both can't be connected to hang-on filters, rainbars and lily pipes need to be connected to an outflow tube to work... hang-on filters return the water via ramps, not hoses.
