Can... though most likely you'll just end up with a skinny transparent one.

If you want more control over the color and gender of your shrimps, just go to those LFS that allow you to personally select them directly from their shrimp tanks... can check at popular LFS like Y618, Wu Hu, East Ocean, Fishy Business, Sun Pets, OTF etc.

For even more premium experience, can visit places like Green Chapter or Aquarist Chamber, even got chair for you to sit comfortably in front of the tanks and slowly select the shrimps.

Lol very true. I was taking my own sweet time looking at the nice shrimps in CRS Haven on Saturday and finally bought only 5 lowest grade CRS. And the uncle still very helpful.

went Aquarist Chamber two weeks ago and stood there asking many questions but never bought anything as my tank was still cycling. The guy was also ok knowing I weren't going to get anything and still very helpful giving many advices.

only Seaview very stressful as too many people wanting to see the packet shrimps. couldn't stand there for long before someone tries to squeeze you out. Lol

    so don't need new shy.

Re: Just started a new shrimp tank

I second Aquarist Chamber and Fishy business. .never felt pressurised at those 2 places. .and they know their stuff! It's more like hobby than sales shop..Most importantly...They DO NOT snub noobs like me..nice people who do not hard sell at all...

Went Aquarist Chamber this evening. .wanting to add more shrimps to my tank..but he told me to monitor and see how my fire red adapts first. .chit chatted for almost an hour despite him having foreign guest in the shop who came to visit (?)... how nice of him..

Also met a API disti there..hiw nice is that..like a 武林高手meeting..lol..Long story short..In the end cannot resist and bought a API master test kit.. =p

Results as follows (but dunno if I matched the colors correctly..lol)
    PH 6.6
    Nitrate 10ppm
    Nitrite 5 ppm
    Ammonia 0.25ppm
The gh n kh baffles me cuz I dunno how to use the conversion table..5 drops for GH (Can tell cuz obvious color change)..but kh yellow it says bright yellow. .dunno what is considered bright..but it turned slight yellow on the first drop..

Dunno of the parameters are ok or not..lol..after seeeing how pretty Aquarist Chamber shrimpd are..now considering a shrimp only tank for the office.. =p

Re: Just started a new shrimp tank

Why did you add shrimps when your tank hasn't fully cycled?

Quite heart pain to see shrimps die especially if you didn't use cheap malayan or cherry shrimps

Re: Just started a new shrimp tank

Tank showed cycled previously..based on the above readings it's not? It's flooded for about 4 weeks already..tetras gone in fine. .so assumed that all is ok..fire red is in 24 hrs. .moving and eating strong too..

Will bio overload also cause increase in ammonia and nitrate? Maybe i try 2 days dun feed n retest? Or add some bacteria?

Try adding more bacteria and don't feed for a few days, I'm sure there is plenty of biofilm for them to feed on

Choose only one to flourish. That's why I only have mosses. Hard to face best of both world.

Woah! Dosing Excel, Brighty K daily and Flourish 3 times per week. How much per dose each time? Is your tank heavily planted?

Re: Just started a new shrimp tank

Excel n brighty k once a day..slightly lesser than recommended dosage. .flourish also 2/3 times a week based on slightly lesser recommended dosage. .

Tank base is about 60-70% covered with hair grass., dwarf hair grass and monte..

@Aaron..Tetras are hardy so I think ok. .right? Lol..For upcoming shrimp..probably will use just mosses n ferns without dosing if you say will harm fauna..

Re: Just started a new shrimp tank

Tank not cycled properly, tetras will survive suffer a little, shrimps in danger. Don't buy anymore shrimps, hold for 3 more weeks and test water must be zero ammonia and nitrites.

The thing about fert dosing and shrimps is that they don't reproduce much unless your tank is very very heavily planted and the ferts get used up fast. And because you got mainly HG and monte which will readily take from your aquasoil, you can cut down a lot on ferts, that will be great for your shrimps. Excel, there is a world of opinion differences on this.... You will need to try bit by bit.

Found these wavy green stuff wish I suspected to be hair algae when I returned today.

Can I just scrap them off the glass?
