    Hi all,

As show from the picture below, my glosso are growing vertically.
I am currently using Up Aqua Pro Z series led (30cm), with DIY CO2 and twice weekly seachem flourish dosing.

Is there anything I can do to encourage the Glosso to spread instead of growing vertically?
Is there anyway I could trim the glosso and replant the trimmings? Where should I trim?
Appreciate all the help i can get.
    Thank you very much!

Cut them along the stem and replant the plantlets. New roots will grow from the point where the leaf meets the stem.

You don't have enough light. You could try "training" them by repeatedly trimming and replanting the plantlets but if you don't have enough light, it won't work so well.

Thanks lsqueel. Will definitely try the method you suggested and I hope I will see them spreading soon enough. Mine were growing for around two weeks now.
When I bought this up aqua pro Z led. It was stated for photosynthesis purpose. So I thought it would be good enough for my tank of 28L

    Re: Glosso growing vertically

It does look pretty bright in the picture but pictures are deceiving. What the product probably meant was the light temperature emitted was suitable for plants as opposed to blue or orange lights.

By the way, the Amazon sword that you have at the back on right hand side will become huge in no time. You might want to replace it before it takes over your entire tank.

    Re: Glosso growing vertically

    Hi squee.
My Amazon swords are actually growing slightly out of the water already. The height of my tank is only 30cm. How can I go about trimming and replanting for the Amazon sword.
And the picture I posted was pretty much how my tank looks like now. The brightness of the tank is pretty much like that of the picture. Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
As per recommended, I tried to trim and replant the plantlets as much as possible.

    Re: Glosso growing vertically

The Z-Series lights should be more than sufficient to grow glosso, just trim the glosso to the height you want and replant the cut portions (new leaves will grow from the cut stems). The more you trim the more it encourages them to spread horizontally.

Btw, just for reference, fellow AQ forumer chansl was able to grow a glosso carpet with the Z-Series lights too, and his tank is low tech without any Co2 injection:

    Re: Glosso growing vertically

    Thanks acidjc and Urban Aquaria.
I don't think I will change my light soon as I just got them.
Really hope my glosso will carpet in due time. Will have to be diligent and trim them regularly to encourage the horizontal growth.
